There were Cricket teams with Captains and no coaches till early 90 s even though First Test series took place in 1800 s .Times have changed and now they have bowling coach, batting consultant, fielding coach, conditioning coach, nutrition expert, and then a Chief coach. Truth is it's still players play the match, and Captain takes the decisions on the field at the spur of the moment . He gets bouquets for wins and brickbats for defeats. Coach should be good man manager, strategist and should be strictly behind the scenes. He should the motivator, a big brother but not a school head master who could be intimidating to the pupils ( here, the cricketers ). Whether it's Chappel, Bedi, or now Kumble, excellent cricketers themselves, failed miserably at man management. Stephen Fleming, Tom Moody, Dave Whatmore, Gary Kirsten and Graham Ford, while not living legends as Cricketers were extremely successful ( Gary Kirsten coached the Indian team to World Cup success, and so did Dave Whatmore with Sri Lanka) because of the man management skills. IMHO

Virat as batsman & sportsman a great icon, but he's very toxic person tbh, I realte to him greatly on the later part, very careful with his words and some sort of narcissistic personality with I've the right opinion mindset, yes he wasn't a great captain, a well manager of a class team, that's about it, leadership potential were all lost when he couldn't conquer his style of viewing things

To all the people who will read this, just tell me one thing, if virat was wrong and kumble was right, then greg chappel was also right, isnt it?
Coach cannot control the team, team has to be controlled by captain, coach's job is never to teach the team how to play or behave, rather keep the motivated and have bestest of idea's for drills and sessions, these were 10-12 year experience guys, playing multiple formats, they need rest else they could break which happened with hardik in 2018. So, rather than understanding the psychy of the modern era, kumble tried imposing old school tactics on them, which wasnt correct by any means
