I love that by the end he’s not even bothering with being passive aggressive

I love how he goes from 7 to 8 years to further express how even a scheduled return gets delayed when it comes to borrowing an item

"Never let someone borrow something you are not prepared to part with."
Some of the best wisdom that's ever been imparted on me.

Seven years ago I lent a friend my Hyrule Historia. He still has it, I once asked if he finished it and he said "I check it from time to time". Now I really want it back.

I actually had a friend borrow a DVD set and then he lost it (he suspects someone else stole it). Then, he tried to deflect blame, saying that since he was stoned, it's really my fault for lending it to him when I should've known this would happen. Eventually he gave me some cash, but he doesn't get to borrow things any more.

I will say there is an odd satisfaction to being the inverse of this. I borrow books and manga from my brother and his wife all the time and they still have the same reaction whenever I give them back and tell them what I thought. They've lost a lot of crap over the years to people 'borrowing' so they always look delighted when I return something and immediately suggest another thing for me to take and read.

"Don't worry, I'll read it at some point. I just haven't gotten around to it yet" are words that will forever echo in my brain

Love how he went from 7 to 8 years in like a nanosecond

A friend of mine borrowed money from me, so I doubly triply quadrupley expected never to get it back, but he did. He gave it back, and when he did, I cried. I literally cried. Not even joking. It was absolutely amazing and singular that someone asked to borrow something of mine and then actually gave it back. I've never even had family give back what they borrowed. I look back on it now and I'm still amazed. He was a really good guy. I've lost touch with him because I moved to a different country, but he is probably one of the best people I ever met.

I thought it would be just:
"Oh, hey, can I borrow that book?"
"Yeah, sure, here you go."
"Awesome, thanks! You will never see this book again."
"What?"

A friend borrowed my copy of FF9 when I was a kid. I tried to get it back a few months later and he was like "what game." Yeah, we were like 10 but, no, I still haven't gotten over this MARK

I remember letting a friend borrow a game as a kid, saying that he must've lost it in a lake or something, and finding it when helping clean out his storage with its battery burnt out by the heat a decade later. Good times.

This is a GREAT reference material, now I got something to show people whenever they want to borrow ANYTHING from me! Thanks ProZD!

I don't think this was a "Hey, kids, remember when...". This is a direct call out. For one specific person he knows.

I feel like this is aimed at someone who actually borrowed something from him and the saltiness just grew over the years

many years ago, as a child, one of my moms friends tried to lend me this book because she thought i would like it. i told her i would probably lose it or forget to give it back (true but i also kinda just wasnt interested in reading it) but she insisted and said i wouldnt forget/my mom wouldnt let me forget.

guess what book is still in our house.

So true... I swear in total, the amount of things I have let friend’s borrow that I have never gotten back has to exceed a thousand dollars 💀
