Spirit of Life - Anupama Hoskere

The ‘Spiral Of Life’ installation at BLR Airport’s Terminal 2 boarding piers features the traditional Sutrada Bombe (string puppets) of Karnataka and modelled after the ancient art form of śālabhanjikās/madanikās from Hoysaḷa, Chennakeśava temple of Beḷur near Hassan (about 182 kms from Bengaluru).

This artwork by Anupama Hoskere, who is a master puppeteer and the Founder-Director of the Dhaatu Puppet Theatre, features nine puppets that represent the Śriṇgāra Navarasa. The puppets are dressed in colourful clothes, adorned with elaborate wooden jewellery that’s finished with gold foiling, and sport hairdos typical to the Sutrada Bombe puppetry. They are all tied to a ring similar to the kolāta puppets of Karnātaka.
