The Stressful Reality of Video Game Testing

QA testing video games might not sound stressful, but imagine this: playing buggy, unfinished games for hours on end. No saves, constant glitches, and tight deadlines to write reports. It's not air traffic control, but it’s a different kind of pressure—one that keeps you stuck in the grind.

Testing video games being one of the most stressful jobs has got to be one of the most out of touch things I've ever heard.
You need to detach yourself from that chair

Where I've worked I've never seen any game tester do that, that's a waste of time and money. Short reports and steps to recreate the bugs.

Most of the time their job is to find graphics, level, gameplay bugs of all kinds, recreate them and create Jira tickets for the related department to fix, once fixed, the tester checks the fixed version, they either close the ticket or reopen it, if the issue is not resolved.

I’ll take that over being yelled at and being called a horrible person because of a decision a the corporate office decided 😂

Worst job I did was working as a welder in the middle of summer making a fence when it’s 100 degrees outside.

Not most, but definitely not the easiest with those circumstances.

I beta tested an almost complete game, didn’t write a report or review at all, played a couple hours or minutes every day, and it got removed from my steam library a couple weeks later.

I mean, being paid definitely would make me not care as much about the kinds of things that normally make me close a game

Shouldn't you have dev commands to test and repeat specific parts of the game at different save points?

It does seem like we went backwards when it came to game testing, when I was 11-17 we could get keys or a digital code that allowed the community to help test and find issues within the alpha and beta stages of the game befor open beta usually if it was a mmorpg you would be sent a poster and t-shirt and a collectable of some kind, or special digital rewards for your account example my dad alpha tested star wars the old republic and was able to keep a race that you had to buy to unlock. Now big game companies get you to spend money to play an unfinished game we complain the deva do their best and the company makes a shit ton on single player games yeah they make you play a specific level or test a specific mechanic but instead of spreading it out to different people they usually have one or two people play the entire game un finished I can see how the love for gaming is declining it used to be neich and unpopular which made the small communities better but after gaming got popular and more people joined alot of issues raised not just in online communities but in the gaming industry themselves

I’ll take your word for it, I’d rather play games than work 6/7 days a week 12/18 hours a day.
