Dapol Fails Again !

Hello and welcome back to Piddle in the Marsh a lot sooner than expected but I have to have another little rant at Dapol for their usual lack of quality control and attention to detail.
The O&K JHA Hoppers for Foster Yeoman are stunning models and look fantastic but have been spoilt by the issue I explain.
There is a fix, as I show, but we shouldn't have to do this to models, especially ones this expensive !

The washers I used can be got here off EBay

I am sure you can get them from other places to. I just picked one from the many on EBay.
The washers are Nylon, inside diameter 3mm, outside diameter 7mm.
I would advise lubricating the axles as well and then giving them a lot of running in with a strong locomotive.
I have used a Dapol Class 56 and a Farish Class 60.

So congratulations Dapol, You are "Dunce of The Month" again !

Kevin at Dapol, I would love to hear your excuse, if you would care to contact me !

Hi, thanks for explaining the issue and sharing the fix - I'll be ordering some washers too. I share your overall sentiment about the quality control, if not exact words (I'm glad the children weren't in the room when I played this video!)

Oh Dear. What a shame. It's so good of you to find that solution. I hope Dapol follows suite. They certainly need to!

Well, that is downright aggravating, Mark! And, you are absolutely right, there is no excuse for that to be missed by quality control. As you described the problem, my first thought (from other worlds, not model trains) was a nylon washer. Nice explanation and demonstration! Sorry that you ahd to go through that, but brilliant on the fix!

thank you for the very informative video, I've ordered the washers as a preventative measure to stop this happening in future.

"Worth waiting for" 😉 Congratulations on the success of your fix 👍 I have ordered a pack from Amazon so hopefully I will be up and running by the weekend 👍 As Stephen at Elvenhome has stated, you are a "National Treasure" 😇 Very best wishes to all Piddle Folk from the other Ireland ☘️

Hi, what was the dimensions again? The M3 - 3.2mm (i/d) x 7mm (o/d) x 0.5mm thick looks too small so they must be a larger size?

Interesting. I've got two RMC JGAs that I bought by accident in N scale as I had them in 00 and my N scale British is 1960s - I've never run them and they're Farish. Might have the same issue so I appreciate the Intel!

like the fix, maybe you should be Dapol's official product tester.

I've been tempted by a few 'oo' Dapol wagons and find their couplings very flimsy. They are quite often set off-centre and won't automatically connect with other couplings, including Dapol's own. When wagons derail it is always the Dapol wagons that have caused it. So I agree, that their quality isn't what they should be.

Well that's a bit of a slight oversight in design, isn't it?!
My JNA Falcon wagons show just how poor Dapol's quality control truly is. Not only are the couplings so shocking loose and droop so low that they won't couple up to each other, but a wheel on an axle on two different wagons were on the wrong way round! So, if you're going to purchase any JNA wagons just be sure to have a back-to-back gauge to hand and order some magnetic couplings from West Hill Wagon Works as they are literally the only couplings that keep the wagons together!
Mike.

All these negative Dapol vids stops me buying from them. I'm sticking with Bachmann & Kato. You have a stunning model railway too.

i added shim washers to mine as well, and they run reasonably freely, but they sound dreadful! real life flange squeel or something going on. its unbearable to listen to the train going round! i need to check the back to backs and oil the axles. I've also had a few short circuits! very disappointing from dapol as the running qualities are abysmal.

Dapol's QC needs improvement! With the recent announcement of theirs that the prices are due to increase, I hope they will sort themselves out. It's a shame as they make some great looking stock.

What a shame, they look really good, glad it's easily fixable, but it is unacceptable to release products like this
