Just make it free for everyone. We subsidize roads an insane amount, should subsidize greener transit too.

I have a friend as a conductor on the Franklin line of the commuter rail. I was talking with him and he told me that he didn't check my ticket because the phones they used to scan the tickets weren't working. Even though it wasn't his fault he couldn't check my ticket, he says Keolis still blames him for not collecting the tickets. I have gone to Forge Park/495 for 3 Days on the same ticket without activating it, and just in case something like that happens that's why I only activate the tickets when a conductor instructs me to Incase I get a free ride. I essentially got 6 free rides on the MBTA because you assholes won't upgrade their equipment. It is as simple as that. Give them equipment that works.

this is still a problem today. they say to activate the ticket just before boarding, then no conductor comes to scan it. and people say just keep the ticket to use it again but i already activated it dawg. the whole system carries the most laziest crew

Maybe hire conductors instead of understaffing

The card readers are only going to be at the major stations? What about passengers boarding at suburban stations, do they still ride free?

They leave those gates open on the weekends. So on the weekends the T is free

how do you get to dunkin' donuts in the concourse if you're not taking the commuter rail

Another issue that is so crowded that conductors can’t get through because it’s so crowded

Was it always like this with all the T commuter rail contractors? B&M, Amtrak, the one between Amtrak and Keolis, Keolis?
Come to Philadelphia to see a gated commuter rail system.

They should build real estate near and over the tracks and charge a small tax for real estate near the tracks. Meanwhile, they should charge a smaller fare to encourage people to not drive.

From a practical point of view, what can a conductor do once someone has already boarded and has no ticket. You could dump them at next station, but that could have been that person's destination anyway. Having gates is a great solution.

It is 2024 now and I take the train all the time but I never have seen one of them. I would tell the conductors when I have one around come back to me so I can purchase one and they do. I think the "new ways to make sure commuters are paying their fare" is a bad idea because people get away with it on a normal basis on the subway already.

So would that barrier eliminate conductors 'jobs? If so then it mustn't be a problem in the first place as they say.

I take the Fitchburg line once a month and the conductors check everyones ticket going in and out. I do not know what the deal is with these other lines. These turnstiles are a stupid waste of money and it is annoying to be forced to scan your ticket to exit North Station

I bet people will just get off the train before the specified stops that are adding fare gates.

The Conductor checks me just as I leave my stop but I went from North Station to Acton got to Waverly before the Conductor Checks my ticket but from Littleton to North Station the Conductor checked my ticket right when I left Littleton I actually went from Leominster to Porter got to Acton by the time they checked my ticket

This will not stop fare evasion. People will just jump those fare gates just like they jump the fares gates on the rapid transit system. This is just a large waste of money.
