A Republican senator has criticised Australia for its treatment of American beef.

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming told Fox News the US has been unable to sell a single hamburger to Australia and cattle ranchers in his state have welcomed the tariffs.

“I appreciate what the President is doing on tariffs … Australia sold $29 billion worth of beef in the United States, and we haven’t been able to sell one hamburger in Australia,” Mr Barrasso said.

US beef meat especially used for macca burgers (in US) contain more than 30% fat (grain fed not grass fed as in Aus) - federal directives state that these burgers need to have less than 30% fat which is why Aus beef is included - tell your beef producers to get their act together & change the way they farm their cattle & don't blame the Australian producers

As an Australian, I found it interesting that there were comments about Australia concerning beef. Trump claimed we ban US beef, but that is actually a complete lie; there is no ban on US beef. We simply don't need to import it, as we produce huge amounts of our own beef, which is cleaner and more disease-free because we are an isolated island. The only reason the USA imports our beef is that they import Wagyu beef, since our farmers decided years ago they wanted to be different. Australia is the second biggest producer of Wagyu on the planet and the largest exporter. It's expensive anyway, so the 10% makes no real difference, and ironically, McDonald’s is the biggest buyer in the USA.

We’ll sell our beef elsewhere it’s clean and disease free something that the US can’t claim

The fact is that US cattle was banned in Australia in 2003 due to mad cow disease. The ban was lifted in 2019 but cattle had to be born and raised in the USA, not from Mexico or Canada. The same applies to Australian beef sold in the USA, born and raised in Australia.

Simple your beef doesn’t meet our food standards.

Senator, you would be wise to observe both the OH&S conditions that currently exist in US abattoirs and the Australian legislation concerning bovine diseases (e.g. mad cow). Stop mixing your herds with Canadian and Mexican breeds would be wise. You may then get an appreciation of why US beef is not recommended in both Australia and SEAsia.

That Trump believes this boofhead shows that Trump does not base decisions on facts. He bases them on what he imagines things to be.

HILARIOUS!!!! FACST …. Australians will not buy mediocre, fatty beef from anywhere in the world! Americans DEMAND lean, high quality Australian beef for their hamburgers!Americans will NEVER NEVER NEVER eat a fatty McDonalds burger made from 100% feedlot beef! Australian beef is 95% grass fed! American beef 99% feedlot fed!

Maybe they should have paid more attention to bio security.

There is no ban on America beef, American beef just doesn't meet our bio security standards that everyone is held to to bring goods in to Australia as their beef consistently tests for traces of mad cows and is rejected but why would anyone buy a product from someone else when they are are a world class primary producer of and in surplus?

I would not feed fatty feed lot American beef to my dog.

This American victomhood is ludicrous. Its paramount to having a cry about Eskimos not wanting to buy their yellow snow.

They are mad because we have better beef? Sounds like some primary school drama

It's not as if America has a big beef surplus piled up in the corner with nowhere to go. Sky you need to get on the right side for once on this one.

US has historically had animals and animal 😊diseases brought by Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden.

Australia is much younger and has much fewer diseases amongst our livestock. Australian agricultural biosecurity is more important than some US Senators opinions

As a senator you should have more brains, and as "news media" so should you. Most importantly, our beef is just better. Australians won't eat your beef so it's a waste of money for you. If you want to export to Australia, meet the requirements instead of bitching about them. Just so you you know, we actually have quarantines between states! To protect our biosecurity. Also, as Fox doesn't like presenting the facts, overall, we buy more from you than you do from us. We don't want your beef, but we do want other things. So don't pretend we've done anything wrong by you🐧
