The researchers found signs of human activity near a boat-shaped formation in the mountains of Ararat. This was a big revelation. So, researchers from universities in Turkey and the U.S. started to work in the area to find more evidence.
They have been busy for about a year, digging around and analyzing rock and soil from the famous Durupinar formation on Mount Ararat. This spot, which is in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, is less than two miles from the Iran-Turkey border. It is a 538-foot-long feature made of limonite, and some locals believe it is the remains of Noah's Ark.
Legend has it that Noah built a huge ark, about 150 meters long, to save pairs of every animal from a giant flood. According to the Book of Genesis, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
