Waves eMo IEM immersive mixing

Let's check out the Waves eMo IME immersive mixing system. I go through what it is, how to use it and how it sounds. This is how you mix immersive IEM without using Klang. Everything is done in the Waves LV1 console.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the video. I didn't realize this required an additional license from Waves, but admittedly, I didn't look into it in detail. I appreciate your videos because you are upfront about the costs and alternatives

Thank you! I‘ve been waiting for this video… 😅

I think we will go for it. Especially as there is the 50% off for all that have an LV1 license.

Cool concept. I like it. It’s almost like custom eq curves to help you easily carve out more space in a mix. Thanks for making this video, really gives me a sense about what it does.

I agree stereo sounds more full, but that’s listening with the whole mix in mind. When you’re playing, I want to hear all instruments, but not all with the same importance or same clarity. Cool that you can push some instruments away a bit, make them less important in your mix.

Great demo Joe! Love that so many instruments are involved to make it complex. My takeaway is more instrument separation/placement and very clean. Most bands I mix do not include "everything" so the separation will work well.

SO, in Klang the image of height is given by subtracting the highs when the level is lower than ear height, then when the instrument is placed higher than the level o f ear, then they just push some of the other side of what the other ear hears, something similar with using pan above the head. Don't know If I explained very clear this, but the height could be acheaved by tweaking the EQ for lower height and PAN for upper height. Msybe you can implement this in future updates

thanks for the video!

Also a nice recording there you are playing with. Is it anywhere released?

Thanks for the demo! Great work. Do you think you could upload an audio example of regular old Waves NX on the stereo IEM bus vs EMO IEM? Not sure if it's worth the upgrade price yet...

Haven't had a chance to download & play with it myself, but how does this handle stereo source? Do they sum to mono and become "point sources" in space? Or do they use the stereo width from the main channels? Wondering how I'd handle crowd mics

I assume this to be possible, but this would make a nicer mix for an online feed for live bands too. Just listening to this on IEMs at home, i would rather listen to a stereo bus feed mixed like this for a band or church.

I feel like they still have a lot of work to do getting the psychoacoustics right. Right now it sounds and feels like just better stereo. It is better for sure, not sure if $1000 better though.

Which is better ?
Klang or Waves immersive?

How much of an affect do you think YouTube's compression algorithms might have on the "immersiveness" of this demo? If you play back the YT video, does it sound similar to how it does coming straight out of your LV1 interface?

How are stereo channels and busses processed with the eMo IEM, since there is only one dot on the circle without any width etc.?

Is there any A/B comparison with Klang?

yeah, in ear and then you need software to fix the natural hearingproblem in an IEM situation! i still play with subwoofer and top as monitor and in case i have a song with click and sequencer i use my headphone and then back to real sound! call me oldschool but for me thats the best way to play live. i hear the whole environment how it really is and i can adjust my dynamic at any moment fitting the environment sound and dynamics perfectly. but thats just my thing, maybe 99% of the rest of the world hate me for this and play with IEM..!! I am not against, but i dont see any advantage in it (as a drummer / musician) for me personally. As a mxiginengeneer i love it, because the stage is much quiter! :-P

I can say for sure thate the "In front of me" like the icon shows (like for Snare) is NOT in front of me. Is inside me (in the middle of my head) just like regular Stereo image.

So Yes it sounds different from Stereo, but it does not sounds like KLANG even if the KLANG depth is on default...

is it just me? or it sounds just BETTER on stereo???

blind listening this video just condfirmed me that i like classic stereo better then new IME

Yeah I don't hear $1, 000 upgrade with this.
There is a difference but more like a 100-dollar difference.
And to be honest I get basically the same thing with my Alan and Heath CQ 18t. It's got stereo outputs, all of the paning I do sounds great on that console sounds like we're in a huge room.

Not a huge difference between ST and IEM - doing this comparison on Klang is a massive difference.

Klang definitely sounds WAY better but this is WAY more cheap and convenient, and honestly, good enough
