Outback Queensland Road Trip from Winton to Emerald

This week we journey from the Outback to the Ocean, saying goodbye to Winton and travelling 600km to Emerald, in Queensland’s Central Highlands. We find out what it's like to camp in the Outback of Australia, Queensland.

We overnight in the sleepy town of Alpha, famous for its fossilised wood, and set up camp for a week at one of our favourite spots just south of Emerald, Lake Maraboon.

We spend days visiting the nearby Sapphire Gemfields, immersing ourselves in the history and culture of the area, exploring underground mines and trying our hand at fossicking for precious and beautiful gemstones! Will we find the big one?

We hope you and your family are safe and well, take care, and stay happy, healthy and hopeful!

We are an ordinary Australian family, creating extraordinary experiences. We've taken a leap of faith, packed up our lives, said goodbye to the 9-5 grind and hello to 24/7 - life as a traveling family!

Being complete caravanning newbies, we are hoping the experiences we share through our Family Travel Australia series will not only have an educational element, but will inspire you to take your own leap of faith, get outdoors and make memories that will last.

We live by the mantra "You don't need to see the whole staircase, just take the first step!"

I enjoyed this so much! I loved the story of the Rubyvale Gem Gallery!! You could feel Peter's genuine passion for mining sapphires and the lifestyle they created. It shows you anything is possible in this life! I have actually had the privilege of visiting this family and their business and you will never meet more genuine, caring people, excited to share their part of the world with you!

That was a wonderful show again. The further west you guys travel, the more relaxed you look. I am always fascinated with flood depth gauges; when you look around and try and imagine the staggering amount of water that would be spread over the immediate and surrounding country, is always hard to get your head around.
That was a wonderful interview and life story with Peter Brown. He is just as passionate now as he was in the beginning, fantastic and inspiring to listen to.
Your coverage of the mine and mine head operation was a nice piece of work, congratulations. Hope you find a decent gem that Kate can wear with pride. I think she would have been reluctant to remove some of those she tried on in the shop. Thanks again for your efforts in putting this together and sharing, take care, cheers.

Hey guys the AIATIS shop has indigenous maps of Australia. It would be really good to also refer to the Indigenous name of the part of the country you are visiting . A learning experience for everyone and a mark of respect for our First Nation people. Love your vids.

I noticed something was missing... where are the flies outdoors that should have been annoying everyone?
