I love that the entire real estate industry is basically being less-than-middlemen at this point. It's literally "oh, you want to buy this house? and you're offering 400k over the asking price? well gee, this will surely be a tough job for me as a salesperson, but I think with a lot of lines in the back of my leased 5 series we can DO THIS DEAL"

The thing that really shits me, is when people (wealthy, newspapers) have the audacity to blame the working class/unions chasing 2% PA pay rise for our shitty manufacturing industry. Never ever read an article in the papers blaming these muppets.

Imagine making a TV series about the most expensive houses in Australia... while there's a housing crisis and most people who aren't either rich or over 50 can't afford a 2/3 bedroom apartment in their hometown let alone "a view".

This is a level of disconnectedness I thought was only achievable by Liberal politicians. The whole crew needs empathy training.

Real estate agents are the scum of the earth. Be it selling/buying OR renting. They F over tenants whilst doing the same to the owners. The used car salesmen of the 80s but dealing with so very much more money.

Most of these houses will never actually have anyone living in them, they will just sit there and appreciate in value until the owner (probably on the other side of the world) decides to sell it and make himself a few more million.

Years ago back in the 80's I had a relative who was an executive in the real estate business for one o the larger companies at the time. He was actually a professional dude who did some in depth surveys about the current state of industry and its salespeople along with a number of other things they suspected needed improving. The findings were that something like 80% of the people surveyed considered estate agents roughly somewhere BELOW that of used car salesmen in terms of basically every metric- trust, reliability, honesty. empathy and so on.
Essentially, this caused a bit of a stir and a lot of the more degenerate creatures in their employ got some walking orders and more lets say 'human' people got hired to get the company image out of the sewers and into some kind of shape that wasn't considered complete poo. Plus a lot of advertising!

This is going back to the mid 80s
Roll on 40 years later and I reckon they're probably well below the used car salesman meme and somewhere back in the sewers, but not as actual poo which belongs in sewers, more like the disposable nappy, cooking fats and wet wipe that clogs up the sewer and isn't meant to be there. Real Estate, Agents clogging up the shitter so no one gets a go

I used to deliver mail in Vaucluse every so often, so these types of houses are familiar to me. So tacky, and unwelcoming, and the neighbourhood felt like a ghost town. I'd then deliver around Lexo the next week, and the tenants would always say hi and offer me a glass of water.

What shocked me the most when I started looking for a home is that all the agents are like this. I thought only the agents selling at the top end of the market to the ultra vain buyers would be this up themselves. But not the case. Even those selling at near the bottom end (which is now a 500k home in western suburbs of Melbourne or a tiny unit) are pretty much just like this. I must have met 100 agents over the last few months and every single one turned out to be dodgy in some way or another. Absolutely awful people to deal with.

glorified door openers. they dont deserve more money just because house prices are inflated well beyond any reasonable point. The houses sell themselves and people want to buy them before they've ever met the door opener.
