I started at 1.25 and quickly went to 1.5 and every book raised the speed. I was shocked at how easily I adjusted to the faster speed. I actually enjoy the book more at the faster speed.

Great tip on listening to the beginning of a new audiobook at a lower speed. I always find myself rewinding at the beginning when listening at higher speeds.

I was about to close this video until I heard you mention reading the book while listening to it. Mad at myself for not thinking to do this, amazing tip!!

Tx! all these tips were great!! I've done all except reading AND listening! That's genius! looking fwd to doing it.

I feel the same about using headphones in both ears helps AND also gradually increasing the speed throghout the book. I always start at 1.0x bc I want to get a feel of the readers actual voice and then keep bumping it up.

I also do listening meditation... where I go into a meditation pose, close my eyes and just focus on listen. Having eyes open takes a lot of focus away from audio processing....

If I'm somewhat familiar with the material I can jack it up to 3.5x speed.

Also, listening at a super high speed (i.e., 3.5x) then lowering to a slower but still high speed (i.e., 2.5) make it seems relatively easier and is a great way to increase speed for the session. Kinda like a warm-up. Jim Kwik uses this for reading physical (non-audio book).

Lol listened to this at 3x speed. Nice chipmunk voice;)

Depending on the information density of the content, too.

I listened to Twilight ironically during my most bored stint of the pandemic and at one point Bella's simp monologues 🙄 got so exhausting I listened at much higher speed or I just skipped entirely. But then my non-fiction books really came for me.... 😭

I had already read Myth of Sisyphus physically so my cocky ass was listening at left lane speeds... but I couldn't tho?! Sometimes, I couldn't just breeze past the severity of what just been said to me?! I had to pause. I *had* to stop and smell the roses. In fact, listening to it with emotion and inflection made a deeper impression on me than black voiceless print did in my head.

When I listened to Karl Marx's Capital, it was even worse. Sometimes I had to just stop listening entirely, and ruminate for hours. I had to play around with the concepts I just heard, dissect them in my head, before the next listen.

I definitely couldn't just make my brain binge communism and nihilism the same way it did Dances With Wolves and Under The Skin 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great topic! Roughly what’s your ratio of reading physical books vs audiobooks? Or do you typically listen to the audiobook while reading?

Thanks for sharing your tips. I have moved from 1 to 1.5 to 1.75. I tried 2, but had to back it down. Working my way up a little at a time!
