I recently retired and am NOT planning on moving but have been decluttering like I am. I spent the first year slowly going through things a cabinet, drawer or closet at a time. Also removing stuff from surfaces. Pieces of furniture have gone too. Wow what a difference! Now I’m in year 2 and rethinking things I’ve saved that I still haven’t used so I guess I’m starting the process over. Best of luck in your move. Your calming voice and demeanor are perfect for a Sunday morning.

Last move I made the best tip I used was to put all of my hanging clothes still hanging on hangers but put the clothes down in one large black bag and tie at the base of the hangers. Then you can lay all the clothes flat in your car and then just hang them up as is in your new closet. No washing, boxing, etc. So quick and easy!

When the non stick coating is ruined, pfas, also known as toxic forever chemicals, seep into your food. I would really get rid of pans with ruined non stick coating, or even buy a cast iron pan to avoid those chemicals

Packing room by room really works. Also clearly label your boxes. By the time everything is moved, you're exhausted and this will help you a lot!

Ok.. I have to pause to comment.. " clearly we have a jar problem"!!! 😂... I'm not the only one???!! Yay!! .. I save jars!!! too much.. my kitchen cabinet was actually bowing.. I filled an entire huge cardboard box... The recycling bin.. even donated the " nicely shaped" ones.. and I still have a plastic bin in my storage outside for florals, candles, decor etc... I have a problem!!!! Good to know I'm not alone! 😅

I know how is it to move with a very little stuff (I had to escape from the war in my country), and the biggest challenge was really what to keep and what to leave (I didn't get rid of anything, because I am planning to come back 😢). But in the long run only the documents and the money are two things that matter when you move.

When we declutter our home we decided on a moving away from home box. Like a starting kit for the kiddos when they move out.

Labeling boxes on the top and sides is good but can still be a challenge to find those items you need immediately. We had just a couple days before we needed to be back into our homeschooling schedule so I wrapped all of our curriculum and supplies with our stash of wrapping paper which probably wouldn't have done well in the move anyway. Made the boxes easy to recognize. No reading necessary. And if you have outside help you can just tell them to place those boxes together. And they don't have to be wrapped like a gift, just around the sides.

I have a tip similar to your glassware wrapping: pack anything that is cloth / fabric last. You can wrap fragile items in socks, use rolled-up T-shirts as fillers in moving boxes... get creative !

Things we LOVE about moving...!!! well... we get a new/different place to live..!! Packing up - ugh.!! My only thoughts on your move.. You packed up all of those jars and pans, etc to donate... I would have packed up all of your stuff to go to the new house.. and left all the jars, pans etc to USE while your still in that place. Jars can be used as drinking cups. etc. Then when you are ready to skedaddle out.. you pack up all the stuff to donate. Things that hadn't been used in the past, get a little bit of love before they get a new home/owner. Happy moving.!!

We move every 3/5 years with my spouses job so we declutter leading up to those but we had our first kid and bought a house and have accumulated SO much from friends. Will be decluttering one space each night, thanks for the motivation💙

Great video! Looking forward to seeing how it all fits in the new place! ❤

I laughed when you held up the colander because I had a similar steamer insert that does the same thing and like you I kept the steamer thingy and dumped the colander.

I gave up baking a while ago and 2 years ago I watched Josh Becker and he mentioned 2 things that helped me unload a huge amount.

He asked the question - if you didn’t have this item what would you use in its place? All of a sudden I was able to let go of a whole bunch of things that weren’t duplicates, but duplicated function. It got me away from have I used it in the past year? And do I love it? Those are useful, but the most important question was if I didn’t have it what would I use in its place?

He also mentioned Mark Bittman‘s article in the New York Times many years ago about a minimalist kitchen still cooks or something like that where the author explained the 30 or so items he felt were needed in a minimalist kitchen. I use that as a springboard to think about what I was keeping. My list is different but it got me thinking about each item in a new way.

You did an amazing job streamlining your kitchen! As a side note, I have my mom’s hand mixer and still use it to this day. Great gadget (for me)!

I use my muffin pan for egg muffins. When I have left over veggies, Spinach, peppers, onions, tomato I chop thin crack a few eggs and mix bake and Walla. Before that I never used my muffin pan ever either! 😊

Before and even in the first years having children, i was a minimalist and decluttered every few months. That was good caus we moved several times, but when the kids grew up, i got use to hold on to more stuff - but in a well organised way! Constantly they need weird/old stuff for a school project or for a theatre at church. Friends coming over and needed an extra towel, bathing suit (after my son's last birthday a bunch of different body shaped teen boys stayed over night and decided to go swimming but nobody had a swim shorts😁 gladly we have do many in different sizes for our three boys, so that everyone had one. ) My kids are quite grown up now, but still friends, partners... Come over needing a sleeping bag or an extra bike 😂 so I changed my attitude a lot. But as I said, in a well organised way. Everybody in the house knows what we have and were it is. When the kids all move out, i plan to go more minimalistic again😊

Can totally relate… Just moved into a smaller place myself. And I did the same and tried to declutter and only take the things that I really truly wanted/needed. On a sidenote, I still have my mothers handmixer a.k.a. “Whipper”😂 from her wedding in 1969
