Roy Wood & Annie Haslam on making MUSIC together

In 2009, BBC Radio's "The Record Producers" featured Roy Wood and Annie Haslam, where they discussed their collaborative experiences.

Annie Haslam, the remarkable 5-octave lead singer of the band Renaissance, has had quite an interesting musical journey. She was engaged to musician Roy Wood for four years, which she later described as “four of the funniest years of my life.” In 1977, Annie recorded a solo album titled Annie in Wonderland, with Roy Wood producing. Roy, a founding member of ELO, Wizzard and The Move, was a hitmaker, and their collaboration left a lasting impression.

Dick Plant, the recording engineer for Annie's album "Annie in Wonderland," also lent his expertise to Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) albums "On the Third Day," "Eldorado," and "A New World Record," along with Roy Wood's albums "Mustard," "Super Active Wizzo," and "Main Street."

They were an item for a while, the combination of Roy's writing and one man musicality with Annie Haslams voice is magical

What a great album, I first bought it on vinyl and then on CD, which always sounded that little cleaner.
Roy’s simply a genius ❤️❤️

I discovered Renaissance when I was in college, I think the Carnegie Hall recording had just been released. I immediately fell in love with Annie...her voice and HER. First crush I even had on a performing artist and I still have it all these years later. 😂 Annie, if you're out there, love from Colorado, USA. ❤

I was in my early twenties when I came across "Annie in Wonderland" on vinyl at a record store. Yes, I was a Renaissance fan, but I passed on the album. I will buy it now in whatever format I can find. ❤

Annie's post on FB brought me here - obviously never knew this existed. It's some great insight, not least into Roy's methodology, the sort of hands-on sound-building that could be lost in the digital realm...

Nothing surprises me with Roy and musical instruments and arrangements. I remember as a teenager listening to cellos etc. on early albums and thinking ‘yeah that really works’. Always loved his music and still play some of the old Move and ELO stuff on vinyl. Wish I’d kept all of the albums.

Okay then Mr.Wood; It's not enough to be blessed with a great voice, an exquisite ear for melody and harmony, a far reaching and eclectic songwriting and producing talent and prowess as a multi-instrumentalist?
You need a set of Allen Keys and a fire extinguisher!
If only I had known this fifty years ago I would have ceased all attempts at being any kind of musician.
If I could have done just one of thise things I would have been happy. Come to think of it, I do have a set of Allen
