My eyesight packed up 15 years ago so not driven since. One of these was my last car, it was like driving a three piece suite, I love them.

I genuinely love this! I brought a 1995 Fiesta for £50, still have it 4 years on and it's never cost me a penny other than servicing and a relay

I love cheap cars that turn out to be very reliable. I once bought an old Honda Civic 1.4 litre engine for £270 (i managed to knock of £30 from the seller) from the original asking price of £300. The Honda was so reliable that i travelled very long distances for leisure trips, visiting friends and events. I travelled from London to Glasgow during the very heavy snow of 2010, London to Manchester at least five times, London to Nottingham at least ten times and London to Leeds at a least twenty times (my finance was living in Leeds at the time) Never one day did i have to call the RAC due to a motorway breakdown. I was so confident in the reliability of the Honda hence I kept going on very long trips with it. I eventually reluctantly sold it because I found a very good paying job and was able to afford a newer car. I still miss my dear lovely Honda Civic till this day.

Way better interior than todays plastic boxes of BMW! So beautiful inside, amazingly classy! Just bought a stunning 2002 E46 330xd Touring in Vienna last sunday for 4.000.-
Wonderful Car!
Best regards from Austria

I'd love to have an E39 (I'd gladly give you £200 for yours as it is). They're the best 5 Series and are starting to get desirable so it would be worth putting a few quid into it and the issues are DIY fixes. The E53 X5 is based on the E39 hence the similarities. I paid £250 for my E36 but it needed rear wheel bearings and an MoT. The 1990s was the golden era for BMW.

Decent E39 and E38 going up in value quite fast now. A late E39 worth a lot more than an early E60 in equivalent condition.. I brought a 728i E38 2 years ago with 67k fsh for 2k. Still got it, reliable, comfy and does 34mpg.

My old dad never paid more than £100 for a car in his life. Bought a skoda once for £25 and ran it for four years. Stingy old bugger.

You cant beat that banger feeling of getting in a car and parking it and not caring if you locked it or it gets damaged.

I swapped a Ford Ka for a Toyota Carina 1.8CD....I was lucky bcos it had only 2 lady owners b4 me....it was so reliable and economical I sold it to save my license...it was that Toyota that led me to Lexus👏

The E39 was regarded as the best saloon car when it was new and represented BMW's core value as the ultimate driving machine. After 20 years it is at the low point in price. One snag now is the high road tax compared to running a slightly younger car in a low road tax category. Also, high fuel tax has always made running a thirsty car expensive in England.

Bought my 2001 530se, four years ago. £1500 it is minted.... my fourth. Love an E39 with silky smooth 6 cylinder engine, effortless driving!

I did it with an old Mk2 granada, 2.8 litre. Bought it for 50 quid without an mot but it only failed on a hole in a wing and a blowing back box. Cost me nothing to fix besides time on a Saturday morning. I ran it for 12 months and only reason I got rid was it had no seat belts in the back for my new borns sun's baby chair. Fuel was cheaper back in 1998 but the car was still 83 reg so no spring chicken.

When the MOT runs out, take the seats out and make an office chair and a sofa.

Bought a Daimler XJ40 two years ago for £500. It runs on LPG so it’s very economical, and it’s remarkably solid. So far it’s passed both it’s MOTs with shed loads of advisories but HAS STILL PASSED, and I’ve replaced the steering rack, water pump, and oil pressure sensor, as well as servicing it. That’s it. Less than a grand into an XJ40 for two years, that costs me nothing to run!

The price you pay for a car truly is a crucial part of how much fun you get from driving it. For 200 pounds, it's a blast!

My first Hong Kong car! (Basically, I went to look at a flat - I rented it - and the woman was also looking to get rid of her car as her husband has an immediate job in Dubai). Back in 2003, this was my first BMW. The best £2500 I've ever spent.

When I first arrived in the U.K. from Australia a few years ago I paid £150 for an old Fiat Panda. I’d never heard of them let alone seen one. From memory the insurance cost more than the car.
