Eric Gregg was from Philadelphia and absolutely hated the Braves, especially after they won in 1995. He just wanted to see them lose. Although, he also gave a generous strike zone to Atlanta’s all time great pitcher Greg Maddux. Personal biases really factored in and I’m surprised all time ejections leader Bobby Cox didn’t get ejected

He taught Angel Hernandez everything he knows.

Gregg was helping the anomaly continue with the 90's Braves "Always being there, never winning it" after their only win in '95.

Meanwhile, Angel Hernandez still has a job.

To be fair, every umpire during that era called a ton of pitches outside strikes. You can go back and watch Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game from 98 and you won’t believe how some of those pitches were called strikes.

The key word, consistent. The braves pitchers should have taken advantage of it too.

This game still haunts me as a childhood memory and I never forgave Eric Gregg

Sounds like a really cool guy with great energy. Sucks he wasn’t very good at his job. Also may he Rest In Peace 🙏

He definitely had money on that game. Setting himself up to retire.

If Gregg was fired why can't Angel Hernandez be fired?

Art Williams was the NL's first black umpire, not Eric Gregg. And he was never banned from working post season games. He was among the 22 umpires who resigned in 1999 as part of a labor relations strategy that backfired.

I didn't realize the Marlins who beat my Indians actually had an asterisk next to their title... I will use this information in the future.

As a marlins fan, I would thank him for the few good memories that I can read in the history books of my team. Recently it’s been mainly just pain

Alot of people tend to look at footage like this and think the umpire is out of his mind.

A few things I want to point out is that yes these pitches are off the plate however the camera angle is poor for showing what the pitch actually looks like as it makes pitches to the right feel over dramatic.

Second is you that the umpire even if subconscious about it relies heavily on what the catcher does. Part of the catchers job is to make outside pitches look more inside. Granted he's not a miracle worker but he definitly did his part in dragging that ball toward the center (if the catcher throws his glove way out it'll be clearly a ball but if he keeps it in tight it'll look more like a strike.)

He had the plate in the Dodger-Cub 21-inning game in 1982. He changed his call on a Cub runner scoring in the 8th and on the winning run scoring in the Dodgers 21st. (The game was suspended due to darkness after 18 innings.)

Hearing about what happened to Gregg after the game is so heartbreaking. RIP Eric Gregg 😢

With some of the strike zones (or lack there of) called by Umpires this year - they've restored his reputation.
