He Mele No Lilo Dance Version (Mirrored)

I composed this He Mele No Lilo Dance, from Disney's Lilo and Stitch, by piecing together documentary footage, the actual film's animated sequence, and taking the artistic liberties needed to fill in the gaps and make the dance flow.

I'm not a professional Hula dancer, so for pristine technique, look elsewhere, lol, but I figured I'd post it, in case anyone else out there is like me, and wants to make absolutely sure they're as close to the movie's dance as they can get.

As a Hawaiian and someone who grew up dancing Hula I wanna say this is very beautiful. From your hand to your waist I think you nailed it!

FINALLY!!! Someone added that dance part in the tutorial. Every other tutorial I've seen has skipped it and it just bothered me so much. Idk why, but I just love that part in the dance.

I am glad you showed the original footage of the choreography. I don’t think many people know that the reason it feels authentic in the film is because there were dancers that modeled the dance and movement’s. It feels magical, because the animators did there best to depict the hula correctly. :) It’s one of my favorite animated dance scenes, because of that effort!

As a native hawaiian and somebody who has grown up doing hula Im so impressed that somebody is actually doing the correct dance not making up their own mahalo from the big island sista!!❤

For people that think that hula is simple, well they are wrong. Hula is not just a dance is also a symbol of Hawaiian culture.

Yes. Yes. And YES!!! I've always wanted to learn how to do THAT dance since I was eight-years-old when the movie came to theaters! Thank you so much! You have no idea how much joy you've brought me and I can not wait to learn this!

I love the fact that the wind is moving with her. It's like she's dancing with the mother nature

For some reason, the little side step/shuffle at 2:06 has always been my favorite part. I think it's how smoothly it's animated. I've never been able to figure it out quite right.

I'm so glad pacific Islanders are getting the recognition they deserve, Hula dancing is a great and beautiful part of our culture and I'm so glad someone was able to show that by simply dancing to a Disney scene of Lilo and Stitch. Beautifully done 👏

You can tell on your face how much respect you have for this dance as a part of people's culture not just a dance from a movie they liked like in some dance covers of this dance.

I love it that they used real Hawaiian hula dancers for the "He Mele No Lilo" sequence, same reason why I love scenes with the Muses in "Hercules, " because they used real people for the characters' actions to make it that more realistic. It makes the scenes seem more genuine, especially in "Lilo and Stitch."

Cultures need to be shared because we will be missing out on wonderful songs and dances of other people if we think that only people born in that culture should be able to appreciate them.
