If you think about it, the original droid factory is probably the first “expanded universe“ product. It was never seen on camera. The 2nd “expanded universe” product was, of course, the imperial trip transport, which I loved more than anything when I was 14 years old.

The Imperial Attack Base and Ewok Village were freaking awesome. I played with those as a kid more than anything. Unlimited possibilities.

Really fantastic stuff. I like that cardboard AT-AT. It has so much character, and is a good reminder that Kenner were aiming for all budgets with their Star Wars range.

I have to say I think your coolest play set is Cloud City! Came with 4 figs and we didn’t have any other things to support other than the Cloud Car. Really cool with all your figs around it and that carbon chamber too. Love all the details on the backing too!

This was seriously awesome. I had just about all of the SW/TMP figures, ships, and playsets from 1977 - 1982. Loved my 3-legged R2 from the droid factory lol.

I got to enjoy one extra ESB "playset" as a kid. My main Star Wars friend and I both had the Millennium Falcon but, because his was more beat up and missing pieces (he was a year younger) we would take his Falcon and jam it between the trunks of a low-split birch tree in his front yard. It actually made for a fairly serviceable Cloud City as he had also taken out all the cardboard paneling on the inside so there was more (albeit hard to access) space. I have great memories of various scenarios we came up with where Luke actually saved everyone, or Han, Chewie and Leia manage to fight their way out of the carbon freeze chamber.
Great video! Thank you for the big trip down nostalgia lane!

Vintage playsets are awesome and are what distinguish vintage toys from modern.

Had to re-watch this video. Looking to get into some of the vintage playsets. Gonna look for an ewok village for sure. And while I was watching , I just got a new Stan Solo delivery ! Today is a good day !

I had that Imperial Attack Base as a kid. The cool thing about it to me was that even though it was weirdly named, I never even thought about that. You just played with it and filled full of figures and blew things up. So much fun to make that ice bridge collapse.

The Droid Factory R2-D2 had the reverse graphics on the sticker. There are plenty of repro stickers out there. I have no issues with repros except passing them off as originals when selling. Vintage is the best and Stan Solo and others who make vintage style items are awesome.

The imperial attack base should perhaps be called 'the Hoth rebel bastion'. Note: Bastions are a standard motif among playsets for boys ( ex: Playmobil 70413, 4014, or 4217 ) — a lower price-point step to a full-fledged fort or castle. ...I remember having it as a tween ( still do ), and loved it! Great design, indeed.
