Galaxy S23 Ultra Vs Galaxy S24 Ultra 3DMark Game Testing

Today we’re taking a look at the gaming performance between the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the S24 Ultra. I’ll be testing these phones head-to-head in 3DMark Wildlife Extreme, Solar Bay, and Steel Nomad. The capture footage is one of three benchmark runs for each test, and I took the average of the three for scoring. The phones were tested outside of their cases and in an ambient temperature of about 68 f. In this first test we can see both phones handling the Wildlife Extreme benchmark well here, but there’s a clear edge for the S24 Ultras. The motion is just a lot smoother here and you can tell from the average overall score of 5092 points for the S24 Ultra versus 3,808 points for the S23 Ultra. The S24 Ultra averaged 30.49 fps where the S23 Ultra averaged 22.81 fps. When comparing my S24 Ultra to all other S24 Ultra’s, it scored on average 92% better than all other S24 Ultra’s and my S23 Ultra scored 87% better than all other S23 Ultra’s. As for total Wildlife Extreme rankings, my S24 Ultra scored better than 95% of all other devices tested and my S23 Ultra scored better than 84% of all other entries. That's a decent generational improvement in my opinion. Moving on to the Solar Bay testing, it’s the same story again in that the S24 Ultra is clearly a good bit faster than the S23 Ultra. The S24 Ultra’s average overall score is 8,889 points and the S23 Ultra’s average overall score was 5,562. The S24 Ultra averaged 33.8 fps where the S23 Ultra averaged 21.15 fps. When comparing my S24 Ultra to all other S24 Ultra’s in Solar Bay, it scored on average 93% better than all other S24 Ultra’s and my S23 Ultra scored 86% better than all other S23 Ultra’s. As for total Solar Bay rankings, my S24 Ultra scored better than 94% of all devices tested and my S23 Ultra scored better than 54% of all devices tested. Another victory for the S24 Ultra. As for the final test, 3dMark Steel Nomad, the results tighten up a bit as this is a tough benchmark for both phones. The average S24 Ultra’s overall score was 1,773 points while the S23 Ultra averaged 1,138 points. The S24U averaged 13.14fps where the S23U averaged 8.44 fps. When comparing my S24U to other S24 Ultra’s, it scored on average 92% better than all other S24 Ultra’s and my S23 Ultra scored 74% better than all other S23 Ultra’s. As for total rankings, my S24 Ultra scored better than 72.33% of all devices tested and my S23 Ultra scored better than 35% of all entries. After testing all of this, it’s clear the S24 Ultra is the winner but the S23 Ultra is still a viable phone if you want some decent gaming performance. Keep in mind ambient temperature and whether or not you are actively charging your phone have a huge impact on performance. More heat equals less clock speed and lower performance overall.
