As a professional forester, this is a good guide for farmers. The one thing I will say is that only some common stihl chains are sharpened with the file held flat. Husqvarna or Oregon chains often need the file held with a 10 degree back lean. Always check the box of the chain for file angles, THEY ARENT ALL THE SAME!

Adrian your sharpening the saw the right way that's how the tree surgeons I used to work with did it the round file with guide and the flat file for the raker should just be a pile of sawdust at the back of your workshop now😂

Seeing your videos for a long time and they are educational and fun. Beeing a retired Swedish farmer I started some chain-saw work nowdays for fun end upkeeping of the farm and "park" I brushed up my forestry-shool education from the early 70`s. In Sweden this was a mandatory course when attending farming education.
As a beginner again I felt more strongly about protection, helmet, visir and of course the special trousers wich will keep you alive if you get into serious trouble, like back-fighting saw or when you trip or loose balance. I think you where wearing als thie gear when working with the saw but please mention this in a (maybe) coming chain-saw video.

I use the file guide myself but now like yourself I have got better at just using the file on it's own, all great tips, I used to be running to get chains sharpened for years.
One tip I would have if you are out in the field cutting is to bring a spare sharp chain with you, it's handy if you really blunt the chain on something,
also sometimes as time goes on in addition to flipping the bar over clean out the slot the chain runs in, you can buy a little tool for it.
and also run a flat file on the bar itself to keep it flat and true.
A very helpful video for lots of people, it will save time and money to learn to sharpen yourself.

Great video Adrian. My father worked on the forestry for years and he taught me how to sharpen a saw and it was the simple file that works best. If they were a mile away from the road they just carried a 13 ml spanner and a file. Simple but effective. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas to yourself and the family.

Great video I use the file and guide I bought the electric sharpener but realised that the angles are all off for Stihl, I have always had the best success with file and guide, maybe someone on here could answer but you should always push the sharpen never pull ?

Great video. I've been sharpening saws for 30yrs but found recently after not using it for a couple years I had lost the touch and had to relearn what I needed to do. Ended up back to a guide for a few times and now good again. 8:57 8:59
