I once stayed at a small hotel in Thailand. There was no restaurant attached to the hotel. One day the owner invited me to eat with her, her mother and brother. We all sat together outside and enjoyed a grilled fish and some sides. It was delicious. More importantly, for 45 minutes, I didn’t feel like a tourist or a customer. I was just hanging out with friendly people on the other side of the world, and they weren’t hustling, trying to scam me/rob me etc. It was wonderful.
