I don't think I would call it a boil good enough to safely drink the water, but if I was in need of drinking water, I would use maybe three in the Esbit and then see how that does. Nice demo.

I would not count that as a rolling boil James, you need the whole thing rolling for a good 2 minutes to be safe.
Good test mate, maybe use 2-3 tabs for a good boil.

Agree with all the comments saying a rolling boil. Bubbles in the center may not be enough to kill everything. Good tests brother, good to see the kit tested under different scenarios. 🤠🌲

Esbit describe it as heating water or food. It does that. You are using 7 gram fuel tabs as I do also. 2 x 7 gram tabs will get to boiling. It's a great compact kit. Thank you for sharing 👍

If I was trying to make water safe I'd want a full rolling boil for a bit.

I got a burner plate from Four Dog Stoves. It is a round plate with fins cut into the sides and tge "blades" twisted to look like a fan.

It helps my boil times in my Esbit cookset by a minute.

I'd give a firm, "maybe". My understanding that it isn't 100 Celsius / 212 Fahrenheit it is the sustained time over temperature x. Here is something I got from NY Dept of Health, "it is reported that one minute of heating to 162°/72°C and two minutes of heating at 144°/62°C will render Cryptosporidium oocysts non-infectious." While you didn't get a rolling boil, you probably made it safe. I've heard by the time you get to a rolling boil, the temperature has been hot enough for long enough to make it safe.

James I would say no. Water needs come to a rolling boil for at lease 5 minutes to be on the safe side to drink. Your test was a very low simmer I would say. Again just my opinion bud.
