Let's Play Original King's Bounty: The Glory of DOS (1)

Alrighty Folks, I'm super pleased to bring you the bestest chill game since all time! That's right, King's Bounty!

I highly recommend the game! This first episode I get back into the swing of things and end on a high note by capturing our first villain!

I actually won this game in a radio contest in the early 1990s and played the hell out of it at the time, then 25 years later I got another copy and started up again. Eventually I discovered a few probable sure-win strategies:


1. Get a boat and just sail around with your first army, do not recruit or engage in battle.

2. Find as many treasure chests and Relics as you can, ramp up your leadership.

3. Save your gold, find out which towns have Castle Gate and Town Gate spells, visit each castle, find out where all the villains are.

4. Look for the map to Forestria. At Forestria, repeat until you find the map to Archipelia.

5. Somewhere in Archipelia, you will find a rogue army of Recruit them. Dismiss your original army.

6. Now with an army made up only of creatures that can fly, you will be able to zip around the continents and get all the treasure chests you missed. Leave the Archipelia Relics (Crown of Command, Book of Necros) until you have maximized your spell limit and your leadership. Visit all castle and all towns so you can Gate to them later.

7. Get the map to Saharia, get all its treasure chests, recruit more flying creatures. Vampires are useful.

8. Return to Continentia with a high leadership from chests and a powerful army, get magic (if you haven't already), get Instant Army spells.

9. You should be able to easily slaughter all the Continentia villain armies. Use Instant Army to create a few randoms or recruit if a local source is available so you can occupy the castle and gets its income after you've defeated its villain.

10. At some point, you'll have enough of the treasure map to locate the Sceptre of Order If you need to take on higher-level villains, use Town Gate to zip to Saharia and recruit more Vampires, Archmages, Demons and Dragons, keeping an army that can always fly for maximum mobility. Recruit or Instant-Army a few walkers to occupy a castle after you defeat it. You'll need the money from contracts and the income from occupied castles to maintain your increasingly-expensive army.

11. Also, remember to go back to the main castle for promotions when necessary.

12. If you need to take on Arech Dragonbreath (or just want to for the hell of it), use Raise Control a few dozen times, get a ton of Knights and Cavalry. Get a ton of Clone Spells and use them on your nonDragons to increase their numbers to the maximum of your leadership. Castle Gate to Arech. Whatever survivors you have among your Knights and Cavalry, leave them behind. Keep your flying armies. If you still can't find the Sceptre of Order, play a different game.

As someone who has tried playing HoMM1: Peasants' only ability is _Sucking, _ that's true. By contrast, every other tier 1 unit's primary ability should be called _Not being peasants._

Just waiting for my copy for the Megadrive and excited to get to grips with it. Great to have a run through job well done. These classics really stand the test of time for sure.

I'm biased because the only version I played back in the day was the Sega Genesis one, but I really prefer it to this one: the animation is smoother, the graphics are better, and there is a nice soundtrack.

Otherwise, the game is mechanically almost identical. The only difference I noticed was that enemy armies seem to roam more freely, and the fact that you cannot refuse to enter combat when touching them. On the other hand, instead of the "generic knight" icon, each army is depicted by the most powerful unit it contains (or something of the sort). So you can have an idea of what they contain and decide to avoid them in the first place.

There's a sega genesis version of this game, wich i like more since it has music and more animations.

It is crazy that this game was a great release for the Meg Drive.

It is advisable to use bridge spells, even more so as the sorceress. They make logistics much, much easier, especially in Continentia. The boat is okay, but expensive early on and you need a town to spawn one, remember where you left it etc.

I played Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff remake again today, came up against trolls which were unkillable and had to restart, then got my own trolls and just spammed the skip command in battles until I won over and over again. Then got enough of the map revealed to me....only to realise I had no idea where the obvious place was to dig (lots of markers to point out the location) but found I had no recollection of anywhere nor did the maps help. Then I quit in annoyance. Just like I remembered it!

I loved this game as a kid, played the genesis version which was more difficult as you could not refuse battles, and omg the game save password is very long and the O and 0s look so similar that you might never input the right password lol
