Ending E explained:

This ending was novelized back when the original game first released in 2010, so it’s been around for a while. It’s most hopeful outcome for the characters.

In every ending, humanity is doomed. Though Nier guaranteed its extinction by killing the Shadowlord, Project Gestalt failed the moment Replicants gained sentience and Shades began relapsing. Androids like Devola and Popola had been struggling for centuries to resolve this flaw and bring the project to completion, which is what caused the Shadowlord to begin his rampage. He’d realized that to “save” his Yonah, he could not continue to wait for a day that would never come.

Following Replicant’s Ending D, the Memory Tree supercomputer is discovered by the alien machine network several thousand years later. The Tree’s comprehensive data on humanity is what causes the machine network to plan its own evolution. This kickstarts the main conflict of Automata. The buried data on Nier (the protagonist) SPECIFICALLY is used in part to create Adam and Eve. This is even hinted at in the English Replicant release, as Adult Nier is performed by Ray Chase, Eve’s English voice actor.

In Replicant’s Ending E, the Memory Tree’s network administrators (the twins) reveal to Kainé that despite the player’s choice to erase Nier in Ending D, the Tree’s recorded memories of him still exist, locked away. The Tree not only records all human memory, but Replicant memory as well. Kainé enters her own recorded memory and forces all Nier’s data — his entire existence — to be “recovered”. A large Lunar Tear (this is confirmed in the script that came with the White Snow edition) blooms. Within, Kainé holds Nier, reborn at the age you, the player, began his journey.

There’s not much to decode or decipher regarding the Drakengard/Nier universe. The ending functions largely as metaphor for its intended message — that no matter how bleak or doomed the world may be, life is precious. Although humanity and Replicants will soon fade into extinction, Kainé and Nier’s love, and the love of their family and friends, is meaningful. Their lives are meaningful. A massive Lunar Tear, a flower known for its rarity and beauty, blossoms for them, because they have found something in each other equally rare and equally beautiful. Something equally deserving of such value.

This ending made the entire game worth it. I'm just in love with how this story ends.

I hope they remake the Drakengard games next so I can finally understand why everyone shits their pants whenever they see a flower.

Fun fact: originally, this ending suppose to be included in the original but it was cut and featured in extra material instead.

Me, who is familiar with the Drakengard series and sees a giant white flower sprouting from the ground: Ah shit, here we go again.

A lot of people here think that flower is the same one in Drakengard 3 but it looks a lot more like a lunar tear. “I hear a song” line definitely implies something but I truly think that giant flower isn’t the same one as the flower of destruction.

I've been going through health problems for months, and Kaine at 0:50 gives the motivational speech i needed to go on. Days ago i could finally get to this ending and didn't expect to be that emotional and optimistic despite knowing about the lore.

Man. When I got to Kainé's rant on my own, unspoiled, while that music played, and heard the shakiness in her voice in the first half? That got to me harder than any other part of the game.

This game, man.

Kira Buckland voices the Girl, who looks like a young version of 2B, and Kyle McCarley voices the Boy, who looks like a younger version of 9S.

I was hoping the Girl would look more like A2, but Kainé holds that spot for her recklessness and spontaneous emotional outburst.

I knew of Nier's ending E through manga pages, so in a way was glad to finally see it in-game. Then I see the flower and found myself very depressed.

As soon as that white flower started to open, I picked up the controller thinking a boss would appear from it

This has been my favourite game since the original 2010 release.

I had speculated since its announcement that due to papa nier being dropped it this specifically being RepliCant and not Gestalt, that players would be presented with an opportunity to restore their save data for ending E, because that was the story that was already written. I had the same height of expectations for the rest ofnending Es content.

Its perfect. They hit the nail on the head. Theres nothing i woukd change, only add. I didnt expect to wait 11 years to see Kainé get her happy ending, i didnt expect to *see* it at all, but i unapologetically wept.

If youre familiar with the story and the messages conveyed here, youll be hard pressed to find a better ending. A perfect culmination of the story.
