Search Results are Wrong! THESE are the Most Active U.S. Volcanoes

The current top search results for the most active volcanoes in the United States are completely wrong. As a result, I decided to cover what actually are the most active volcanoes in the United States, even compiling a full list to view! This list covers the number of years each volcano was at some point erupting in the United States since the year 1800. Volcanoes include Mount Saint Helens, Bogoslof, and Kilauea!

If you're still accepting requests, it would've been interesting to see a video on some Mariana Islands geology (like Rota, Tinian or Saipan)

One small potential issue with this methodology is that basin and range and rift volcanism appears to be episodic with intervals of frequent activity followed by long intervals of quiescence. This is likely a consequence of the area appearing to overly a discontinuity in the solid mantle which corresponds elsewhere with the East Pacific Rise.

Additionally there seems to be something going on with the cascades where activity at cascades volcanoes seems to have quieted down except for in its eastern back arc zone(which seems to correspond better with the MOR under the continent than a traditional back arc as the slab abruptly terminates in seismic tomography) and the lineament cutting through the cascades with a Yellowstone/Snake Riverplain hotspot magma source signature of elemental enrichment which of course includes Mt. St. Helens.

Could the full locking of the Juan de Fuca plate in the Cascadia subduction zone be preventing fresh melt generation as most subduction zones aren't fully locked like that with only a small locking window.

Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!

Thanks for your hard work man.

How about an accurate top 10 most active volcanoes in the whole world?

I never cease to be amazed by the hard research work that GH puts into every episode of Geology Hub, this one being yet another. Thanks for the perspective, GH, you're my most trusted source for volcanism related information. Cheers.

A video explaining what would happen nowadays in case of a VEI 8 eruption would be entertaining even if unlikely. I could see it structured in a way that goes from the most local effects (tsunami, ash deposits) to the most global ones (air traffic, climate change).

I have a lot of volcanoes from an article that I recently read about 20+ volcanoes in the United States that will erupt again in the future. Most of them are ones in the Mariana Islands and lesser-known volcanoes. Here are some of the volcanoes from the list: Takawangha, Tanaga, Hualalai and Kaupulehu lava flow(s), Mt. Pagan in the Mariana Islands, Mt. Peulik, Clear Lake, Mt. churchill, Anatahan, Agrigan, Hayes volcano, Mt. Mageik, Mt. Martin, Mt. Dutton, Westdahl volcano, and Alamagan. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful knowledge and please continue to do so as much as you can!

Thanks as always, Geology Hub! The new list showing more of the Alaskan volcanoes is really appreciated, given that they erupt more frequently than the Cascades. (The Cascades are still fascinating and dangerous, however). It is quite astonishing, though not entirely unsurprising, that Pavlof's Shishaldin's, and Mount Cleveland's edifices formed within the last 11, 000 or 10, 000 years.

This is outstanding! Can you please do other countries? Then we can work towards a top ten!

Hey Tim, another channel is claiming that the Svartsengi magma chamber is refilling at a faster rate, along with associated ground deformation, than previous eruptions. That might be something to look into. They're predicting another eruption between 2 and 4 weeks from now.

Really really cool list thank you so much my magma lava lava magma brother for making such a comprehensive chart I'm really happy I found your channel every time I watch a video

This was a very informative video. I only wish we could print out your graphs because this could be very educational while not falling into scientific jargon!

Kilauea, my favorite volcano, erupting 167 years out of the last 224. Nice.

Pretty good listing. The only criticism I have is that the average should be a rolling average, say the last 200 years or 225 years. If it were me I would have reduced the time period to 100 or perhaps the age of the current oldest living person, yeah, that sounds more fun. All the eruptions in living memory.

I like that you set a specific criterion and you put in place parameters that take into account observational biases. I my worthless opinion, that makes your rating more valuable than those who just give a list without any context.

You should do a video on the Axial Seamount off the coast of Oregon

I live about 30 miles from Lassen Peak… it’s so beautiful. It’s a shame that Lassen National Park is visited so much less than some of the others that are in CA.

Excuse the upcoming joke, as it is just in jest. Have we not yet sent out missionaries to Pagan yet? :D

Shishaldin volcano looks like Mayon volcano but with snow on top. How beautiful!
