Assad: U.S. 'Should Expect Every Action' If It Strikes Syria

"'CBS This Morning' previewed an interview with Syria's President Bashar Assad that Charlie Rose conducted in Damascus. In the interview, Assad denies his administration used chemical weapons and criticized U.S. foreign policy. At one point, he compares President Obama's policies to the policies of former president George W. Bush. Refuting John Kerry's claims that he has seen evidence that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against its own people, Assad said, "We have the precedent of Colin Powell ten years ago when he showed the evidence [that Iraq had WMDs], it was false and it was forged." He also threatened full retaliation if the U.S. strikes Syria...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

take note of the likes/dislikes of this video compared to others on the topic of Syria. in most other videos you are objective, in this one you are not. you use an edited interview and completely spin everything that is said against Bashar Al-Assad. if there was absolutely any solid evidence whatsoever that the Syrian government used chemical weapons the entire country would be crushed within months by the US military, it has not - and that is because they have no evidence. why do you simply state that everything Russia/Syria says on the topic of chemical weapons is biased? do you not think that the US stance is unbelievably contradictory/biased?

Maybe, but Syria doesn't have the right to exterminate its own population.

thanks bro, It seems most people suffer short term memory loss. I'm sick of people like Cenk calling Assad a "dictator" when he was fairly re-elected once the people knew the opposition were Islamic terrorists.

Oh Chenk, you know exactly what he meant, he meant that all parties involved in this civil-invasion war will escalate the conflict way out of control.

Presidential elections were held in Syria on 10 July 2000, following the death of President Hafez al-Assad. The only candidate was his son, Bashar al-Assad, with voters asked to approve or reject his candidacy. A reported 99.7% of voters voted in favor, with a turnout of 94.6%.

Watching innocent people die in another country might be heart-wrenching, but previous conflicts have taught us, that meddling in the affairs of a region of the world you basically know nothing about when it comes to culture and coflicts between ideologies, ethnicities and religions, is very very short-sighted. If you help the injured person on the street you might feel good, but if that person then turns around and robs a store and kills someone while at it, you'd think differently.

He is in the wrong. He has slaughtered his own civilians, mercilessly. The U.S warned him about chemical weapons and if he has crossed that line he knew that action would be taken. To respond with more threats is both idiotic and futile.

That is perfect logic. The U.S isn't a dictatorship, the Assad family is. Seriously, stay in school.

I was in Libya during the beginning of the Libyan events.

Check my other replies to other commentators here for a few sample videos and refer to the reports by the Amnesty association, other international organizations and independent reporters. They sent their people to Libya during the events and later on to Syria.

You'll be surprised to discover, since they've seen the truth with their own eyes & since they aren't biased, their reports say the complete opposite of what the media feeds you.

I like how you irrelevantly mock his accent (and come on he speaks perfectly english leave him alone + doesn't sound anything like a french accent) then go on to attack him on points that aren't even valid

As an American I didn't see anything wrong with what Assad said there. Idk why Cenk took it so personally. I thought Assad made good points and was pretty calm about it all. The American people agree with Assad here. 91% don't want to get involved, why did Cenk get offended and want to now watch because of the interview? Him doing the interview alone I thought was a good move for his cause. I don't want this war no matter how much they push it...

If you don't live there, you don't experience what's going on, you've NEVER been there, not an expert then I think you should shut up on this entire subject

The fact that Assad can speak English goes a long way for him because he can talk directly to Westerners without the need for a (mis)translator.

"This "man" has oppressed his citizens along with his father for YEARS."
So did Mubarak and countless other dictators but US didn't mind it, in fact, it was in the country's interests.

Name me one president that attacked civilians for protesting. It was a peaceful protest long before the regime attacked. No hypocrisy or double standards here... sarry.

Was an investigation done to determine who exactly used chemical weapons? That seems like a first step rather than going straight to a military attack.

This "man" has oppressed his citizens along with his father for YEARS. Yes, there are extremist on the rebesls side but inbetween there are innocent syrians trying to fight for a real democracy. Bashar is nothing better than the enemy you speak of.
