Dion - Runaround Sue

(...) is a pop song, in a doo-wop style, originally a US No. 1 hit for the singer Dion during 1961 after he split with the Belmonts. The song ranked No. 342 on the Rolling Stone list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".[2] It was written by Dion with Ernie Maresca, and tells the story of a disloyal lover.

The lyrics are sung from the point of view of a man whose former girlfriend, named Sue, was extremely unfaithful. He warns all potential lovers to avoid her at all costs, as Sue "runs around" with every guy she meets and never settles down with any man in particular. He advises "Now people let me put you wise, Sue goes out with other guys" and suggests that potential suitors should 'keep away from Runaround Sue'.

Lyrics:

Here's my story, sad but true
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town

Ah, I should have known it from the very start
This girl will leave me with a broken heart
Now listen people what I'm telling you
A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue

I miss her lips and the smile on her face
The touch of her hair and this girl's warm embrace
So if you don't wanna cry like I do
A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue

Ah, she likes to travel around
She'll love you but she'll put you down
Now people let me put you wise
Sue goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from-a Runaround Sue

She likes to travel around
She'll love you but she'll put you down
Now people let me put you wise
Sue goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from-a Runaround Sue

I am 80 now and danced my heart out in my teens to this song. Danced until about 2 years ago when my back and hip gave out. Now I dance seated and relive the youth clubs of the 60"s, the dance parties, the clubs.
Love Dion and the Belmonts their music is a big part of the soundtrack of my life. I also married a girl named Sue.

My Grandpa and Grandma danced in their garage to this when I was about 5 years old and even though I was young, I saw how they became 20 years old again...I'll never forget that moment. You're still always a kid at heart

He doesn't even need lyrics. I could just listen to him "ooooOOooOOoooo ooOoOoOoOooooOOOOoooo" the whole song

Why can't today's music be the same as this. I'm only 13 and I absolutely adore old music like gene chandler and dion. Bring back this

Lyrics for the oldie lovers:

Here's my story, it's sad but true
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town
Yeah I should have known it from the very start
This girl will leave me with a broken heart
Now listen people what I'm telling you
A keep away from a Runaround Sue
I might miss her lips and the smile on her face
The touch of her hair and this girl's warm embrace
So if you don't want to cry like I do
A keep away from-a Runaround Sue
Ah, she likes to travel around
She'll love you and she'll put you down

Sue goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from-a Runaround Sue
Yeah keep away from this girl
I don't know what she'll doe
Keep away from Sue
She likes to travel around
She'll love you and she'll put you down
Now people let me put you wise
She goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from a Runaround Sue
Stay away from that girl
Don't you know what she'll do now

Raised my now 39 year daughter on these songs! She still loves them! Rock-n-Roll! Those were the best days of music!

A genius at work, a series of songs for one interconnected story, runaround Sue, born to cry, lovers who wander and then the wanderer, truly a man who knew storytelling

I used to hate this music because my dad always played it, but now I'm older and realize what genius these guys were.

Back in 61, Brooklyn, NY, the pool room/bowling alley called JayMar, right off Bay Parkway in an underground 2 rooms. The Juke box is blaring Run around Sue and a few other Dion and The Belmont songs. But ... they kept playing this song over and over and over. We dubbed it the Pool Room National Anthem!. Those were the days, eh Mike? Dedicated to Mike B. who passed a few weeks ago. Almost 80 years of friendship. Rock on, my friend and brother.
