Trolleybuses of St Petersburg, Russia 2021 - Троллейбусы в Санкт-Петербурге

Trolleybus services begin operation on October 21, 1936. The first trolleybuses were built locally, though after a while the city started buying better vehicles built in the city of Yaroslavl (on Volga River).

Thanks for visiting Saint Petersburg! Trolleybuses are a big part of Saint Petersburg public transport system. Wonder if you have seen our new trams on routes #60, #8, #59, #63 and #64. They are pretty new and comfortable! Also, next year Saint Petersburg will get about 2500 new buses to implement public transport reforms. One of our common public transport types - "Marshrutka" (I believe you've seen some of them) - "Route taxi" should dissapear then. Thanks for your videos!

Great looking trolleybuses!! I noticed a few operating off wire. What is the power source? Boston's Silver Line trolleybuses use overhead wires in the tunnel and off wire outside.
Philadelphia experimented with an all electric bus on a short cross town route. The buses were charged at the western loop after a certain number of miles/trips

I love the architecture and streetscapes. It was interesting to see the trolley buses run off wire. However, I noticed that some of them were running off wire even though there was wire overhead. Any ideas as to why the buses were using batteries rather than overhead wire in those instances? Just curious.
