Distal Radius Fractures: ER management, Reduction, and Tips

Tips for understanding distal radius fractures -- what to look for on xrays, how to reduce them properly, how to mold a cast, things to avoid, and other tips. Sorry about the cicadas in the background! Also, when I describe the “AO” picture for reduction (23:00), the way it was drawn was confusing, and I ended up “flipping;” mistook volar for dorsal side. But if you ignore picture “labels” and just listen to me, maneuver still described accurately. Whoops!

Thank you for all that excellent information. Right now I have a brace after having had a cast and looks like I have an abnormality according to your description waiting to see what occupational therapy has in store for me.

Watching this and realizing that the ortho resident who made my cast just did all the mistakes mentioned in the video (my cast covering the MCPs, thumb is covered all the way to the tip in a spica lol) while all i had was an undisplaced, extraarticular DRF

Took New Zealand hospital one week before they put a plate in my wifes wrist, slow as a wet week. She was in pain.
