How To Make Jewelry: Bead Stringing Wire For Jewelry Explained

If you've ever wondered what to string your beads on to make a beaded necklace, this video is an introduction to bead stringing wire. In it, we show the different types of bead stringing wire you can buy and the advantages of each one.

Bead stringing wire is used to make necklaces and bracelets. Bead stringing wire is more flexible than using wire and stronger than using thread or fishing line. In this video, we will explain what the size numbers mean on bead stringing wire. There are three sizes. Size 7 is made with 7 strands and is the least flexible. Necklaces made with 7-strand bead stringing wire will hang fine but not as fluidly as with higher number bead stringing wire. It is cheaper, though, so there are times you may want to use it. Size 49 bead stringing wire is the most flexible. Necklaces made with 49-strand bead stringing wire will hang beautiful and have a lot of movement. It is, however, the most expensive size of bead stringing wire. Size 19 bead stringing wire is right in the middle. It is flexible and not too expensive. We use 19-strand bead stringing wire for most of our jewelry making projects.

Spools of bead stringing wire also come in different lengths on the spool. Pay attention to that when you compare spool prices. You can get bead stringing wire in different colors like silver, gold, black, and copper. We like Beadalon bead stringing wire. Here’s a link to see the three sizes we discuss in the video. These are affiliate links which cost you nothing, but rewards us a little if you decide to buy them.

I am so tired of making bracelets selling them and the buyers bring the bracelets back to me in the pieces in little beads and a broken wire!
I sure hope that you are still attending to this video because I really need your advice. I will pay as much at it cost for a wire that doesn't break.
Can you tell me what it is that I need to buy? Please.

Need some advice..
I'm making a Japamala with 108 tigers eye beads. ( 10 mm beads) . I want a very durable thread because my purpose is to wear it on shoulder where pressure is applied daily when I sit and etc.. so it's gonna be a tough time for the thread and the last thing I want is me collecting 108 beads spread on the floor like a maniac. And I'm new to this whole beading world full of threads and know nothing about them. Yeah, so can you please recommend the most durable and suitable brand, thread and size for the purpose. Lots of love for this video 🤘

Thank you so much! I had a question - when I make my necklaces, the beads are sealed tightly at each end with a stopping bead. After hanging the necklace on my displays for 2-3 months, you can see the wire has been ‘pulled’ or loosened and the beads now have space to move and you can clearly see the wire at each end (whereas at the beginning you couldn’t). What could be the fault? Do I need a different wire? Thank you so much!

Hi, I'm a polymer clay artist and I want to use a bead stringing wire for some of my projects.

That said, I will use hollow polymer clay beads of around 3cm in diameter and will use the 49-strand.

I would like to know :
1) What gauge would be best to use.
2) What size crimp tube to use.

Thank you for your time and help.

Thanks that was confusing me a lot, some actually use fishing line though I don't know what test/strength.

Does the 49 stay straight? I’ve ben using 7 but the wire doesn’t remain straight when using light weight beads.

A friend gave me 7 strand wire. What type of beading project would this work best with?

I have a 20 gauge and a 22 gauge wire that is called beading wire. Is this equivalent to any strand wire size?
