How To Center A Rack and Pinion

so by not centreing the rack it would also make a wheel rub on the radious arm turning hard lock? only my left wheel does it hard turn right

I just did mine on my 2000 ranger yesterday and did not do this. I screwed outer tie rods on with same count as taking them off. Hook everything up except steering wheel knuckle. Made sure tires and steering wheel were lined up and installed steering knuckle. No problems

This is to make sure the car turns properly or the same amount on both sides correct ?

Does it have to be aligned to exact spline when installed, or is there a key on the spline so you only need to be roughly centered, and it corrects to exact spline when you insert?
