Z4^3: BMW Z4 GT (E85), GT3 (E89), GTE (E89) - Fifteen Minute Guide

This week we're taking a look at the three racing versions of the BMW Z4, the M GT, GT3, and GTE from the E85 and E89 generations.

The E89 is one of my favourite GT3 cars ever. I remember when the car came out it was featured in need for speed shift 2 and I fell in love with that car in the game and when i first saw it at the race track in real life i was not disappointed.

It seems BMW can't make its mind on which road car series to base its race cars like Porsche does with the 911 and Ferrari with its mid-engined V8 line and their hybrid successor.

They went through:
GT2 M3
GT3 Z4
GTE Z4
GT3 M6
Not quite GTE M6
GTE M8
GT3 M4


All over the place, and that's disconsidering the American E36 that was succeded by the European E46 and the GTR derivative of the latter in the '90s and '00s. I can only imagine how cool a first gen M4 GTE could have been instead of the Z4 GTE and the M6 GTLM and the smooth transition to today's M4 GT3.
