A modern UNESCO site of cultural significance offers a day out like no other.

Our visit starts with a look at the First Light Pavilion, which opened in June 2022. It offers an immersive and interactive visitor experience for young and old alike, and we take a look around. Here, you can grab a snack at the First Light Cafe, or pick up a short film, or give an enlighting talk at the Space Dome.

A short walk leads you to the Lovell Telescope and past the Star Pavilion to the Space Pavilion. A little older but no less fascinating look at the work of the Jodrell Bank Observatory.

A fun, educational unique day out in the heart of the Cheshire countryside we would highly recommend.

This visit was gifted to us by Visit Chester & Cheshire, but the story of our experience is very much heartfelt. #Ad

My good friends - how do you do this I was raised just outside of Chester ( before the family moved south ) but I still recall the huge excitement that the tracking of Sputnik by the Jodrell Bank Telescope created. My father knew one of the technician, so we were able to have a ( very ) short visit, but from a child's memory the interior working areas were of course far more primitive than the high tech computers and interactive displays that the visitor can see and experience today.
It was, and to a degree still is an important telescope, but it`s outreach now for keen young astronomers is beyond price, so Jodrell Bank retains it`s important and historical place in the astronomical and science communities.
Thank you ever so much for bringing me this little bit of my childhood :)
