Hey slai on my columbo I have the 12 Luigi with SAP+ to be honest, i use the SAP most of the time depending on red teams comp. If it’s mainly DD/CA/CL with a few BB I’ll stay SAP if it’s more BB I’ll stay SAP initially until one of the DD is down or lighter ships is down and gauge the situation of where I’m at vs. the enemy team. That determines when I switch to AP. However with that said, there have been matches where I’ll stay SAP the entire match even with A lot of BBs. I have gotten more citadel hits with plunging fire SAP than I do with the AP. Knock out more modules and guns, (even on GKs) and over all haven’t run into any issue. Like you said in the video it is map/ship/time specific and aiming is a BIG portion. Main armor belt expect half pens and bounces even with AP due to the small caliber guns. But hit gun 2 and deck line superstructure you’ll ring up citadels all day long and destroy modules. Over all the Colombo is a great ship. Took me about 20 or so games to get used to it but it’s prob my fav T10 now. Highest win rate/ highest average dmg/MVP rate/ KD ratio/ out of all my t10 ships and I’m a big Vermont, Yamato, and Malta player

Atm my Only Italian Cruiser is the D'aosta and I feel SAP is good for everything, just It depends on the Target

My in game name is Martok. Good info on this subject! I pondered this question at length. Currently I am using Luigi with SAP+ to great effect, with my Columbo. I do switch to AP when engaging BB’s & CA’s. Overall I am pleased with the gun damage I am getting. However I do suspect SAP+ might be overkill for DD’s. Not so for deleting highly annoying Smolensk and Worcester. I also recommend careful ship angling when firing on enemy ships to negate the horizontal dispersion. Also, the spotter plane is far more effective than I expected.

Great points!! Admittedly ive been using SAP more than I should... Only have recently realized this. Im not a great player, still learning (ugh, even after 4 years LOL), and ammo choice at different ranges is somthing Im just getting a handle on. I really love the Italian lines, was grinding the cruisers but got sidetracked by the Tillman-ish US BB line. Finished it just in time for the Italian BBs (although struggling a bit still at T7) and am loving them. Deleting DDs is soooo satisfying! Great informative vids! Thanks!!!

From what I’ve seen while going through line, you get better results from switching SAP to AP on larger targets. Light Cruisers and DD, SAP is way to go. Colombo using SAP only doesn’t do the best with enemy BBs

Colombo is broken right now. SAP salvo took 2/3 of my health in bow in Des Moines. Knocked out a turret and 2 secondary guns. All in the same salvo. Maybe I’m crazy, but Des Moines should withstand that better.
