“There’s much less chance of a mutiny with a ps5 on board” 😭

As Army 🪖 public affairs, we were taught to say, "I cannot confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons at this base/onboard this ship."

Don't forget the nuclear shells for the 16-inch guns.

My friend accidentally went to the wrong deck aboard his ship. He opened the hatch and there was a huge Marine with a rifle. He closed the hatch.

I had a buddy who was an aviation electronics guy on the Roosevelt during the first Gulf War. Their shop was on the hanger deck and occasionally a Marine would knock on their shop door and say, "If you opens this door before I tell you that you can, I will shoot you in the face."
This would last for however long it took them to move around the tactical nukes that definitely weren't there.
Of course, my friend and his colleagues were 19yo idiots, so they were compelled to cracked the door to see what they weren't supposed to see...

Not only did the Iowas supposedly have nuclear tomohawks, it also had a special nuclear shell developed for its 16 inch main guns (The Mk 23 “Katie” named after the project it fell under) that were supposedly onboard

Used to love getting marine detachments, because that ment no one in Repair Division was going to be doing stores unload

Marine security detachments now primarily focus on counter smuggling, piracy, CT, etc. They often work with the coast guard

I served on aircraft carriers in the Marine Detachment and some of my contemporaries also served aboard the Iowa class battleships. We had one mission.

A retired Marine to me they were on aircraft carriers as security for the Captain of the ship and reported directly to him.

Considering the Iowas had set of nuclear launch keys they likely had nuclear weapons as if you think about it a secret nuclear armed battleship would be quite the surprise

There were many accounts of abuse of sailors and Navy officers by MARDET forces and then there was the manslaughter of a sailor by the Marine brig guards on the USS Ranger around 1986. I had a friend on the Nimitz whose nose was broken by Marine during a security alert. The CNO therefore decided to remove MARDETs from ships.

I still remember before going on deployment they brought pallets of money on board. And when they put it on the aircraft elevator the marines where there .

My grandpa worked on a supply ship for the navy. He told me a story about a shipment of cargo thebwas for the Missouri, I think. He said that this resupply was different though, because no one without proper clearance was allowed into the front hold. And there were marines onboard, guarding the front hold 24/7. The marines disembarked his ship when they unloaded the cargo onto Missouri. It wasn't until years after he left the navy that he heard about the nuclear missiles, and he swears that that is what his ship delivered to Missouri.

Several years ago, I was temporarily assigned to provisional platoon from our company assigned a security force mission for one of the Navy's aircrsft carriers. The guard duty wasn't anything worth mentioning, but I never knew chow in the military could be so good 😂😂 the huge tubs of ice cream we got each week from crew was also certainly appreciated

An old neighbor was a technician on a US aircraft carrier in the late 70s. He told us that nukes in transit were surrounded by a squad of marines with shotguns.

Marines are still on aircraft carriers at least, i was in a psych ward with a sailor who finished her tour in 2020 and she served on the USS Theodore Roosevelt and claimed she did more time drinking and gambling with the Marines than the rest the ship, she also said she learned a few new words too. As a side note we were also in the hospital with a Marine who confirmed her stories about the Navy but he served during the early 2000s seeing combat in the war on terror. She mentioned to him something he was reluctant to tell me and it was about worcestershire sauce in the Navy 🤔

Cruiser had marines in the Vietnam war. The USS Boston was the first guided missile cruiser and had them though they were on 3 inch guns.

When was the last time we had a good old-fashioned boarding action against an enemy ship? That would be *wild* to see in modern combat.

marines weren’t on the ship during Vietnam more to manpower needs in Republic of South Vietnam
