This shouldn't affect compensatory because it should be under $2.5mill/year. Right?

Depth is critically needed. I hope he is better than Pipkins et. al.

There never just going to sign a guy to be “just an in line TE, or extra blocking Lineman”. If he signs, then it will be as a depth piece for interior OL more than for a 6th OL man on the very few snaps they use one. If that’s all they viewed him as, they would spend that money elsewhere, and on a guy who could provide depth at multiple OL spots, especially when cap space is getting low and they have hardly anyone on roster to play interior OL. Right now, They have 2 guys on the roster for 3 interior spots, and zero depth players. Yes, they might move Pipkins, or Storm, but until someone comes out and says that, or we see, we can’t assume anything. That being said, Clapp would provide much needed depth, and possibly free them up to take another player at a different position later in the draft, possibly filling another need. It just gives them a little more freedom to take best player available rather than absolutely needing another interior lineman for depth or relying on a 6th round pick in their first year to be the only interior OL depth they have. Jameis as of now is considered a starter until they sign 2 OL man to fill the two holes they currently have on the line. They are obviously much higher on Jaimes then most people realize. Knowing TT he can’t go into the draft expecting to sign 2 starting OL without a 2nd round pick. The goal is to find one legit year one starter whether it’s at RT or G, and hopefully sign another to come in and compete with Jaimes or whoever else they sign, or move to Guard (maybe Pipkins, or Storm) this upcoming season. There’s also still obviously a chance that they sign Abushi, or someone else after the draft, but until that happens, or they draft 2 starting caliber Offensive lineman, then Jaimes has to be considered the starter. I honestly believe he should get the reps with a chance to win the LG spot this off-season. He was really good at Nebraska and they have put out a good amount of OL into the NFL and he looked good in the opportunities he had last preseason. Not to mention, it’s not at all far fetched to think he could be successful playing LG between two All-pro/ Pro bowl players in Lindsey and Slater. I would still love for them to sign Abushi to be one of the starters, but I’m sure it all depends on how the draft plays out. Clearly they are going into draft looking for either starting G’s or RT and Depending on what’s available and who they draft, will then determine if Feiler stays at LG or moves to RT. At the moment, any interior OL depth they sign is great, because Clapp, with NFL experience, will obviously come in and be better than anyone they sign in Rd 5 and beyond at least in year one. I would love to see them get lucky have Cross fall, or even take RD1 Zion and someone like Kinnard or Lucas in Rd3 and solidifying both starting open spots on OL, and maybe that happens cuz that is where the meat of this interior OL class is….. but With as vocal as Staley has been about adding DBs this off-season, I just think one of those picks goes to adding a DB with the talent to start or at least play year 1. The only way I see them not spending one of those first 2 picks on CB/DB is if there’s a WR on the board they can’t pass on, if they find a way to trade back in RD1 and get back their 2nd RD pick( or another 3rd), or if Staley is in Love with what his defense could be and would look like drafting Davis at 17.
That’s just my opinion…. 💁🏼‍♂️ but who knows how it all plays out, that’s what makes the draft so damn exciting…lol
