Mennonite Cornelius & Mom Garden — (Plautdietsch & Subtitled)

Spring is here — although it doesn't feel like it — and it's time to get plants and seeds in the ground if there's to be an autumn harvest, so Mennonite Cornelius got to work both planting some greens in his apartment but also made the pilgrimage to his hometown to help get mom's garden sown.

I have my little farm here and some crops I have found grow better direct planted in the soil, but, others...they work better starting out with potting soil in starter pots. Maize, Carrots and Potatoes have done really well direct planted in the ground, but other crops, my experience has been that they do better starting in starter pots, then transplanted. I planted Potatoes this year, got an early start, in Feb and three months later, they were done. I saved some Potatoes and they are sprouting, so I shall be planting Potatoes again next year. Even a small farm is a lot of work. Where I live, we have a 'hot season' and a 'not so hot season', so I am getting ready to plant cool season crops like Onions and Carrots.

Compost pile and worm bed should amend that soil in no time. You can trade your labor for healthy soil for your apartment plants. We have to think practical you know.
