Jeffrey Brenner talks about disrupting our approach to healthcare costs.

As Founder and Executive Director of the Camden Coalition, Dr. Brenner and his team have demonstrated that by focusing attention on "hot-spot" patient demographics can significantly reduce healthcare costs in the community. His team aims to build upon their findings nation wide, as recently profiled on Frontline. Prior to joining the Camden Coalition Dr. Brenner was a practicing primary care physician in the Camden area.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

Does anyone contact the recipients that are named as patients who visited the ER hundreds of times each year to determine if they are actually visiting the hospital that often or if there are fraudulent bills being submitted for care that was never provided. It does not seem logical that people will have several hundred ER visits per year. Are the Hospitals offering walk in clinic visits 24 hours per day so patients can just get urgent care rather than having to go to an ER for medical care.

Preventive care is the ticket to some of this fragmented healthcare mess. ER care is the most costly but if the unfunded patents do not have any where to go for free...this will be repeated scenario. It is all about selfishness, greed, instead of helping the truly very ill in their communities by having free clinics. The government needs to pay for preventive care. The hospital can get funds in another manner form the wealthy working and insured patients.
