How To Construct A Trussed Garage Roof

In this video How To Construct a Trussed Garage Roof Tony and Matt work together to install a roof truss in 2 days!

First Tony takes a look at the truss drawing and discusses all the details about how it will all be laid out

Tony then measures and marks out all the trusses on both sides prior to getting the straps on.

Then he uses Dan’s Roofing Square to mark out the birds mouth on the trusses. Tony and Matt then start loading the Trusses on the roof with the truss clips and lateral straps.

Tony then secures the trusses in place with his Paslode Nail Gun, goes over the diagram of the garage roof to determine what needs to be done next.

Tony and Matt begin securing the ridges on the trusses, Matt finally cuts off the ends of the Truss.

As a joiner/ carpenter with 30 years bench and site experience, it’s great to see work executed well.. from its explanation to installation.. great video Tony and the team.. your video on the curved stair case and the many other uploads I’ve shown to the apprentices and improvers to Watch and learn from.

Nice job 👍
I like to put the truss on the plate and level the ceiling cord and then strike a plumb line up outside edge of wallplate on to the truss to determine my birds mouth.
Everyone does things differently but that's how you learn, as long as the end result is there then its all good 👍
Top tip, once you've marked out the wall plate stack your 1x4 on top keeping the ends flush to the inside block work and then square all your truss marks on to the 1x4, then it's easy to fit and saves time, you can plumb the end of the 1x4 to your inside block work once all installed, if that makes sense 👍

Great video. You make it look so easy. Really appreciate the way you’ve broken it up step by step as it makes it easier to follow but also allows me to Google the individual step if I want to learn more.

A gem of a video Tony. Unbelievably timely as I have to do my own home made trusses etc for the wife’s old stone stealing. I have Young Dan’s square as well. The walls are 2 ft thick and not square, so I have put what I learnt from you fellas into practice and git it sorted.

Hi guys. That was nice job you made of that roof Tony. Always amazes me how much you get done in day. Some good tips to with the screw getting the timber to pull flush. Will be using that one. Happy new guys 👍

is that bracing at the end all that's going to hold this roof together ? no noggins or any sort of reinforcement ? 😱

Hi, great work!
Is there a name for this type of truss without a bottom chord or joist?
Also is there a maximum width from wallplate to wallplate for this type? I'm doing a very similar project with a width of 4.6m over wallplates and ideally would like to not have to use a ridge beam or purlins.
Cheers
Pete

Being a bricklayer I concede the fact that most Chippys are more precise with their work rather than the slap dash attitude . there is no reason to put wall ties in under the wall plate either 👍 .
