You can tell here, Peter has matured since his first appearance in Civil War. He grew from being an Avengers wannabe, to sacrificing his identity to prevent the multiverse from collapsing.

This movie has to be one of the most emotional films of the mcu
I mean this scene 1:48 we can see a little tears in the eyes of strange which shows the relation of Stephen and Peter and then the scene where peter says good bye to Mj and Ned. After everyone forgetting him he kept a lego charachter in memory of Ned. I mean we have connected so much with Peter that we can feel the pain of him at the end of the film.

Doctor Strange's initial rejections for Peter's identity sacrifice was actually improvised by Benedict Cumberbatch to show how much Strange cared about Peter.

I was re-watching NWH recently and couldn’t help but notice something. Towards the end when Peter asks Strange to cast the spell that’ll make everyone forget him, couldn’t help but notice Strange giving Peter a reluctant look of sadness. I feel Strange, if anyone, understood that Peter was about to play an ultimate sacrifice that he was too familiar with. Just as Stephen could not be with the love of his life in any existing universe for the overall benefit of its stability, Peter was about to do the exact same to keep the stability of their current universe. I feel Strange gained a lot of respect in those few seconds for Peter, seeing he was jst as equal to strange to call a heart-wrenching sacrifice. Suck’s that he gained all that respect to just forget about it not long after, but I guess that just comes with the whole superhero gig.
