The question is not whether this movie is based on a true story, more how many true stories is it based on. I think most would be surprised as to just how many families and life plans are represented here. This is going to be a truly heartfelt and moving film.

I love seeing fresh actors in things like this where it's supposed to be more grounded. Sometimes when some actors get really famous, their irl stardom distracts from the story being told unless they melt into different characters so well that you forget their other roles.

There was so much to love here. The “See that guy? English major” made me laugh (as someone with an English degree herself), and the boys’ love for their mom and vice versa left a lump in my throat.

I love the work that Chrissy Metz does. She is dedicated to being a part of stories that matter.

Trailer looks painfully vulnerable in the best of ways. The brothers being very distinct foils to how to approach life with mom is brilliant and real. What I appreciate is the humanizing of addict mom. Addicts are inherently selfish, but it's incredibly hard to understand boundaries and how to live your own life when you call the addict in your house mom or dad or brother or sister. You want things to be different, but wanting doesn't change anything. Alcoholism runs in my family and thought the journeys for addicts in recovery is often similar, it's always nice to see how other filmmakers approach the topic. The path to recovery is hard for everyone involved, but I appreciate the showing of how mom does love her kids and how she's still very stuck. The "im sorry" and "you're always sorry" is a conversion I've had myself with my family members going through addiction. Overall, the heart of where this trailer comes from is something I feel anyone can find a way to connect to but those who understand firsthand of this experience are going to resonate with the story shared. The trailer feels so real and sincere in large part from not only in how the boys navigate all of this but also how the mom does. I am very much looking forward to checking out the whole film <3

This looks unsettling and intriguing at the same time, so excited for it. The character association feels like a long lost hug. :)

I just finished watching this video. It was so beautiful. Not in a flashy way, but in a genuine way. This is not the kind of movie you want to see if you want something cinematic, but if you want a real portrait of what everyday life is for some people, you got it. My parents weren't drug addicts, but I know how these kids feel. I was put in the middle of situations where I was forced to grow up faster than I should have been. I did not know how it was like to be a child. To have the luxury of worrying about childish things. I could really feel the pain for these kids so deeply. It may just be because I'm different, but I can't imagine putting my own children through something like that. In the end, they did the right thing. The "right thing" looks different for everyone, but whatever it is, it's the best thing you can do. You can't force someone to get better. But you can push them to. I know because, while I never suffered from an addiction, I battled with depression. Because my parents were so abusive, I was lost in life. I stayed with a friend for a long time, but I wasn't getting better. It wasn't until my friend's mom took me to the hospital where I did. It was one of the hardest thing's I've done, but that was the best thing she ever did for me. I was in and out. Hospitalized for three times in total these past years. Whatever it takes, to get better. Sometimes, when you reach your lowest, the only way to go is up. When you fail, you try again. You keep trying, until you get it right. It was a lovely film. I wished I could say more. But that will be for another time.

parentrified?
Parentification occurs when parents look to their children for emotional and/or practical support, rather than providing it. Hence, the child becomes the caregiver. As a result, parentified children are forced to assume adult responsibilities and behaviors before they are ready to do so.

I like movies about addiction/alcoholism. I'm a recovered alcoholic, and my husband is a recovered alcoholic/addict - and stories like these, whether they have a happy ending or not, always remind us what is waiting for us if we don't stay on the beam. Not Jim Beam. Though my brain goes there, of course. Once a pickle, never again a cucumber.

Life is sure messy, and the people you meet along the way far from perfect. There’s no instructions and sometimes it’s just plain luck you make it through. And you find yourself feeling like you can push on. The actors and writers come together here and apply their skills, talents and craft.

I’ve seen its premiere in Berlin last year and it’s a really good coming of age indie movie with strong performances. Glad to see it’s finally getting a cinema release.

I think this is one of those movies that people who are participate in this project, should be proud of. Because its shows real life situations. And its very rare for such movies to become popular because everyone prefers the fiction but this is real
