The Blackbyrds ~ Walking In Rhythm 1974 Disco Purrfection Version

Today's remix of the day! This comes from a mountain of requests over the years, sorry it took so long but I just figured out how to do this. I think you will be surprised how disco-ey this got when I made it longer.

Byrd truly came into his own as a jazz fusion artist when he hooked up with producer brothers Larry and Fonce Mizell. Their first collaboration was 1972's "Black Byrd", an upbeat, funky blend of jazz and R&B. Jazz critics savaged the album but the record was a smash hit becoming the biggest seller in Blue Note history and just missed hitting number one on the R&B albums chart.

In the wake of its success, Byrd formed a supporting group, the Blackbyrds, who were culled from the cream of his music students at Howard University and recorded through the rest of the '70s. Their first pop hit was "Walking In Rhythm" a #6 hit in 1975 and then the #19 "Happy Music" followed in 1976.

70's. Great decade of music. Walking in rhythm is a fine example of the "feel good" music. I love all of it.

What music we had! What talent we witnessed! What memories were created! I was a young man when this was new, and now that I have more yesterdays than tomorrows I can say without reservation...there will never be another era like it.

One of the best feel good songs of the 70’s with a subtle but awesome bass line too.

This was the first of the Blackbirds records I ever heard . A great Soul Ballad that never seems to get older or out of fashion. They later started doing some soul/funk records.

1974!1975! This song wore out all radio stations in USA back then. Constantly played. Remembering a time when America was still great. Great music, great people, great country, great time. Never to return again. 2022? Nah! I'll take the 1970's even with the so called issues of the decade. Nixon Ford Carter era.

I've loved this song since the 70s. Definitely worth the wait to hear it fleshed out

"Walking In Rhythm", "Sun Goddess" and "Rock Creek Park" are three of the most memorable songs of the mid 1970's.

Wow, I feel like I'm 14 years again ! Back in 1974 that was the first song of The Blackbyrds I heard... What a fantastic feeling it gave me and my friends back then. Been a Blackbyrds fan from that moment.
Thanks a lot for the great job you did again!!!

I just saw this on my feed a minute ago, and actually yelled a WAHOOOO!!!! And now I have it playing. This is one of my very favorite songs of all time, it’s such a feel good song, and that killer flute solo is embedded in my DNA. Oh thank you so much for choosing this wonderful groove and supplying more of it!!! ✌️❤️😎
