I quite like this game, from what I remember. Not everyone's cup of tea, so I'm glad I have the expansion that'll allow me to play this solo.

Hey Jason,
don’t give up on Oh My Goods! It is an awesome game! The problem with the base game is that it feels pretty much like an unfinished prototype. I urge you to get the first expansion (Longsdale) and try again (many don’t get there because the base game feels so stale; people who do speak of a kind of enlightenment experience :-)). It dramatically improves the game and changes its structure. It wraps a micro story around the game which introduce characters and adds changing goals that give players more focus. But most importantly, the game now has a timer which enables players to see when the game will end and adjust their plan. Both of these changes add the flesh to what felt like a skeleton.
The second expansion can be passed. It just has more story, a two or three more buildings and assistants with special powers (these are actually the coolest part of the package).
Anyways, Oh my Goods without and with the Longsdale-Expansion is like night and day.
Best regards,
Till

I ended up getting rid of my copy of this with expansions. For what I got out of Oh My Goods, I found that I enjoyed San Juan more. I never did play the expansions. After trying the base game I didn't have much interest.
