Erciyes : A Journey Into The Heart of Anatolia

This expedition of 5 climbers took on Mount Erciyes in the spring of 2016. It wasn't as easy as the last time but that didn't stop me to enjoy the beautiful view from the summit. Scenery was fantastic. As a bonus the sunset was breathtaking! The sky cleared in the morning and conditions were near ideal for snow climbing, with fairly consistent, soft snow over firm, stable and fairly-consolidated spring snow. Slips did occur from time to time when the soft, surface layer of snow gave away under our weight and sun light. Before descending, i carried out some simple snow stability tests by using my shovel. After completing the tests, i decided to follow the ridge path to manage the avalanche risk. I was aware of the danger and was careful with the potential risks. It was not a race so i kept my speed low and avoided to make sharp and deep carving turns as well as possible. On reaching the end of the descent, I was totally thrilled with this legendary peak. Obviously, snowboarding leads me into the alpinism as time goes by and i feel that it’s a path I have to take. Enjoy...
