You indeed have to visit Mont St-Michel in winter, on a week day, to avoid the crowds. Unfortunately, during the peak season overtourism has turned this sacred site into hell.

You should better avoid the crowded weeks, between june 20th and august 25th.
That place is a fairy tale by itself.
In 1944, a terrible battle took place at less than 20 miles, US vs Nazis.
