In the moment, I need to solve a complicated gauge transformation of two 2x2 matrices; symbolic computation in mathematica is suficient, but mathematica is expansive and I do not own this at home. Do you have some example of symbolic matrices operations?

in my computer with jupyter it doesn't display the symbols correctly. It displays, for example, litterally the expression a**2+b**2 instead.
