I know a girl who spent $120k for a degree in songwriting. Biggest scam I’ve ever heard.

I have a bachelors in mathematics, my coworker - a masters in music education, and my boss - an associates. We work at a corporate bank. Just apply for the job.

So far I'm doing good, approaching retirement with about 800k in savings. Transitioning from building wealth to spending can be scary, especially with soaring inflation. My question is, after maxing out my tax-advantaged retirement accounts, what next?

He needs to find a way to use the Philosophy degree to fund his tuition. Anything but student loans.

The biggest mistake people make is not having an idea of what they actually want to do in life and going college just for the sake of going to college. If you genuinely know what career you want to do, and if college is going to help with that, then college is definitely worth it. But if you don't know what you want to do, then putting yourself in debt is stupid.

Learn it on your own! Finance is something you can learn hands on

Start at an entry level position and work your way up. Most finance jobs don’t give a crap what your bachelors was in as long as you have one. Eventually you might find a company that will pay for your masters if they want you to further your education. Do not go back to undergrad for a career in finance

I have a philosophy degree which I used to land an analyst job at an engineering firm. Stayed there for two years, then passed an EEI and physics test (using my OTJ knowledge and experience from my prior role) to transfer into a union design engineering role at a utility company making well over 6 figures in a LCOL area. Philosophy degrees arent worthless in the least, you just need to know how to use them to your advantage.

Unpopular opinion Philosophy is one of the best majors if you take it seriously. Teaches you how to think if it’s done right and he’ll find a way to get that bag. I have that degree and have never regretted it

The Philosophy degree is not the problem, what he did with it is. I majored in Philosophy and leveraged the skills I learned in it to get into law school, get through law school with top grades, and now work in big law making great money. The Philosophy degree has helped me be a better writer, critical thinker, and advocate.

Best advice a former boss gave me was to study Accounting. This has been the backbone in every position I have had. My employer paid for my education & as our degrees are about 1/3 of the cost of the USA - they are nowhere near those huge prices. Nobody gives a damn here where you got your degree but what you did after it.

Philosophy majors have one of the highest acceptance rates to law school (they tend to do well on the LSAT statistically).
They can also go to teachers college, persue a journalism degree, a masters in education etc.
