EMS doesn’t pay, when cops and fire make 60k to 100k+ a year, and the EMS average is 32k, when the national poverty line is 25k, most of us have to work unhealthy amounts of overtime, a lot which is forced, we get no vacation time, no sick time, our benefits suck, our retirement plans suck. why do you thing no one wants to get into the industry and why we have left in droves. There is a massive work force shortage for higher paying jobs, with less hours. We are passionate about our work, but when it comes to keeping a roof over our families head and children fed, we have to do what we have to do to survive. If you want want Knowledgeable personal showing up to your family’s worst day, invest in them. But most people will vote against improving their emergency services because it might mean they have to pay 3 dollars a year more in taxes. Emergency services is the epitome of you get what you pay for.
