If you wanted to get all the timber for free. Call your local sawmill. I own a sawmill and we giveaway, chip or burn. Our off cuts. The waste is a huge problem for mills. And most of us would rather give them away

After I had butcher block counters installed in my kitchen, I had the leftover slab cut down and gifted my friends (and myself) with gorgeous cutting boards. I was having new maple stair treads put kn my front hallway and the carpenter’s assistant - who was his wife 😄 - surprised me with a gorgeous cutting board they made from a scrap piece of wood. They had rounded the edges and corners and smoothed the wood down so nicely. It was so nice of them to do it, as I’m sure I never would have thought of it.
