A380 REPLACEMENT - Boeing's Proposed New 777X

preview_player
Показать описание
Boeing once confirmed the technical feasibility of a 777-10, which would act as an extension of existing 777X variants and be, for some customers, the perfect replacement to their ageing quad-engined planes such as the 747 and A380. But, Boeing hasn't progressed with the variant still as 2024 approaches. What is the 777-10, why was it proposed and what is its future outlook?

If this variant will be very similar to the 777-9, so that the certification process is the same and they can use the same production facilities, the cost of adding this variant would be much less than making another new aircraft or restarting 747 or A380 production. However, given that the Emirates will not need it until the 2030s and Boeing is still working with certification of the other variants, I think we are a few years away from any possible announcement of development of a 777-10.

Boeing publicly said at the Paris Airshow that the 777-10 isn't on their radar anytime soon. They have 3 versions to finish developing and get certified as it is. They may revisit it in the 2030 depending on how these perform.

I think it would be a good idea for Boeing to get the two current versions certified and flying first. Plus…they need to get something going in the NMA market.

One of the major problems with A380 is to provide services on it. So many passengers are going through TSA, and gates are creating problems for airport facilities.

Boeing need to go down the 777 10 path, I believe, once the 8 & 9s are certified & in service. Slot restriction issues will only increase in future. Airlines will have huge cargo container increase over the A380 which it may replace. 777 10 will need the range to match A380 capabilities for it to be a suitable replacement

Range could be fixed with more thrust right? A35K has more range than a A359, as it has Trent XWBs rated at 97k lbf rather than 84.2k lbf...

There are rumblings of a 747 reemergence as a twin engine with new wings and driven by RR Ultrafans. The 747 has large cargo accommodation features no other plane has. Emirates would love such an aircraft in twin engine form. The production line is already in place.

So,
777-8 replaces 777-300ER,
777-9 replaces 747, and
777-10 replaces A380

The accelerating growth in airline travel and continuing slot restrictions will force the demand for larger airliners. It’s a matter of when, maybe 6-10 years from now. Although it can be argued that in practical terms, the upper size limit for an airliner is the A380.
In the meantime, 777s and A350s will fill the role nicely.

You neglected to mention the Emirates order for 90 Boeing 777X, including 55 777-9 and 35 777-8 jets in a deal valued at $52 billion at list prices plus 30 787-9s at the 2023 Dubai airshow.

There's no 777-10 proposal. The replacement for the A380 is any twin with about 8, 000 nm range.

Plus a B777X-10 would at max only be 3m longer than a -9, so only 3 rows of Y at best right?

Correction 777-9 range its 7, 285 nm not 7, 600 plus. I don't see a 777-10 until the 2030's if approved. It remains to be seen how much interest there its among airlines.

what about a 500+ passenger single decker twin jet Airbus A370.... possibly 2035-37 timeframe.

A 777 is half an A380 and so it cannot possibly properly replace the A380 ever. So there is no A380 replacement unless Airbus builds a new A380 or Boeing does a double deck aircraft.

Now we just need 3-6-3 seating in economy with all-composite construction. Then you've got 500+ seats using Boeing's typical configuration/spacing.

Air France already flies 450 on the 777-300ER, so they'd be pushing 550 with such a beast.

Just give us back the a380s and 747s. Let's be honest, no kid will hang a poster of a 777 on his wall because it is just not exciting compared to a 747. And that's worth something if you ask me.

AC Devlopment: Stop at the 7779x, then go blended wing body from then on: That way you get heavy lift with efficiency.

I would love the proposed 777-10 to exceed the distance of the a350-1000.

Emirates planning at least another 10 years service with the 380, I wonder if the 777X will be ready then?
